Nightmare averted

Just changed all eight of my plugs without breaking a single one of them. After eight years and 67k miles these suckers didn't put up much of a fight. Phew, I feel better now.

Buddy of mine is a tech at the local Ford garage. He told me three years ago he gave up trying to soak them and work them out because most of the time about half of them broke anyways. He started using a impact and blasting them out.........hasn't broken a plug since.

i brought my car up to operating temp and let it cool as i took off the coil packs, then sprayed some deep creep on them, let them soak for 15 mins, then PB Blaster for another 20 mins. Some squeaked and squealed but they all came out in one piece. What a relief.

That's what I did with our 06. I also Sea Foamed it before hand. They made a lot of noise, but came out in one piece.

I've changed 3 valve plugs probably 20 times and have never broke one.

Me either.. on my 07 the first time I changed the plugs was at 60k miles as well... Anti sieze all the things lol

I'm just glad we aren't going to have to deal with that.

Out of curiosity, as a mechanical engineering student, and from an engineering perspective, what is different about the two designs that makes the older so crappy?

I will show you the differnce in the two plugs when you get here. You will shit when you see how they designed the earlier plugs. Fortunately you do not have to worry about those

I didn't have the stones to use an impact, broke 4 of 8 on my Expedition 5.4 3v. The back two on each side, LOL

Consider yourself lucky. I broke all 8 on my car. Had to change them on a cold ass motor.

That sound like either a genius and scary idea. But I think I'll have to give that a shot.
