Trying to to put these Violators on but having trouble with removing the originals first. Got all the hangers off and the clamp nut but the thing wouldn't budge (drivers side muffler). Soaked it in WD-40 (didn't have any NB) for a half hour and pounded on it with a mallet, still didn't move a bit. I'm gonna put some heat on it tomorrow and see if that does anything. If all else fails I'll take it to a shop and let them work on it. Anybody else had hell removing these stock axle-backs? Suggestions?

Also the car has 55k miles.

Unbolt both mounts, loosen the clamp and then wiggle/twist the muffler back and forth. There's a nub on the muffler pipe that fits into a slot in the over-axle pipe so it won't twist a long way until you get the muffler pulled out an inch or so. Forcing it will just bind it.

I can't twist it either, it might as well be welded in place.

Did you unbolt both mounts like skwerl said? There are two mounts per muffler where the hangers slip into, if you take these down you can do it. You can take another step and loosen up the two clamps at the H connection to give you a little more wiggle room.

Yes I removed both hanger mounts. I haven't tried removing the crossover pipe clamps though. I don't see it doing much but I'll give it a shot.

Damn, that thing doesn't want to break loose! When you loosen the mid pipe clamps you can get more twisting leverage that way to help break it loose, soak that connection with some PB blaster.

if you have to get a cut off wheel and put a slit in the muffler pipe, being careful not to cut through the inner pipe though.

I had to cut the metal on the end of my original stock mufflers with a dremel the first time I went to take them off and peel it back away from the over axle pipe. After that I picked up some used takeoff stock mufflers in case I ever wanted to quiet it down again.

Once you get them off, sand down the over axle pipe to clean it off and put some antiseize on it to prevent the issue again.

So I was repeating the process of removing the hangers and clamp nut when I suddenly realized that I didn't take the bolt out last time. The clamp never loosened because it was stuck on the threads... After taking a hammer to the bolt this time instead of the clamp the mufflers came right off. I think it's probably safe to say this thread deserves a face palm.
