In a slump on what to do... twin screw, centri or turbo.

I plan to run a 6 speed... Keep that in mind. I don't like the downfall of heat soak on a Whipple or Kenne Bell. I keep hearing horror stories of crank snouts breaking with Prochargers and stick cars. Then there is turbo... But I want to make 800ish rear wheel with a 302" 3V. All in front of a 6 speed.

So, any big number cars or anyone have any advice on what could get me to that power level or close?

Car will have accessories.

Thanks,
Chris

Car will be grudge raced and weekend driven. Not a daily. But I also want to be able to get in it and head to Florida if I want.

With todays technology those goals are obtainable with any of the three choices. I think a centri or turbo is going to be the friendliest on the street, and have lower iats. Otherwise it really comes down to personal preference. Did you read the thread on the R-Spec DOB intake and big whipple? Here is that thread

Turbo hands down. The on3 kit/S&H will get there no problem for very cheap.

Even though an auto is better with a turbo then a manual. I think, with your goals, a turbo setup would be your best bet. Talk to Greg or Bobby at S&H about the new twin kit they are putting together for the 3v. Very good looking kit at a great price.

A Whipple will run about 20 degrees over ambient during normal driving. Heat soak isn't (at least in my experience) an issue with a Whipple. Quarter mile temps never reached 120 degrees so it's not an issue there either. I'd imagine it could be an issue for road racing.

If you want 800 with a twin screw your best bet is the DOB with a 2.9 or 3.4 Whipple. I'm not even sure you could hit it with the 2.9, maybe on E85.

I've never heard the broken snout stories of Prochargers. I've run a D1SC at 19psi and made 699 at 6400 rpm. This was with a 4.6 and E85.

800rwhp is a lot. IMO anything over 550 is pretty much useless in a street car. It's fun being able to boil the tires at 70 but it's also fairly useless.

Choosing between a twin screw or Procharger for normal driving with 800 I'd go with the Procharger because it behaves like a normal motor until the revs get past a certain point.

With 800hp you will need to upgrade everything including the rear end. Every part in the stock drivetrain becomes a weak link if you hook up at the wrong time.

It really sounds like a turbo or centri with a boost controller would be your best option. That way you can dial the power down for normal driving and boost it up when you want it.

Plan on E85 if it's available. It will make everything easier and get you an easy 100hp over gasoline at the power level you are seeking.

If you can hold off till Jan. or so I will have a car setup close to what you are wanting to achieve. I can give you a lot of feedback and even rides since we both live in AL. I don't think 800 is that big of deal with a turbo because you can always dial it back to next to nothing with a controller. My goals are 650-700 on race day and 450-500 for street use. That is way easier to do with a turbo setup.

I'm in no hurry. I actually go the 29th to pick up the car as a roller. You guys will know the car when I post pics but I'm in no hurry. Just want a nice car to cruise in with plenty of power. Also, everything else will beupgraded for sure. Definitely not my first rodeo on suspension, learned that the hard way.... Lol

Turbo all the way we can do a single or a twin kit. We are running a special on our twin kit right now. One you do the buy in you are locked in at that price till it is paid for. Kind of like layaway.

Why 800ish whp? Gonna cost cubic dollars. And will you be able to hook it up in way shape or form?

I can set you up with a nice centri kit, especially good for grudge racing on the street where traction is a little more limited

If you like spinning the tires all over the place (my favorite hobby) get a twin screw. The Department Of Boost R-Spec with a 3.4L Whipple is the easiest way to get that done. With the right motor under it you could just about get your 800hp on 93 octane.

If you want something that is more "sane" a turbo(s) or centri is probably a better choice. IDK of a centri that will make 700+hp on 93 though.

No matter what you do it will cost a lot of money and be completely over the top. 800hp is not screwing around.:thumb2:

Built motor, hogged 3v heads, beefy cam. A D1 could do 800. A F1 could do it better. Can't argue about a turbo either (or twins). I think a centri will be your best bet for a balance of street/track. I only argue for the sake of consistancy. Turbo's on a stick will vary in consistancy compared to a centri on a stick. If it was for an auto, turbo's a just too nasty to pass up.

I'm running an f1a procharger built motor, rear end, full suspension all the works and it does fine on the street I'm still on the break in tune putting down 700 rwhp at 6000 rpm, so got a lot of room left. Il be going with an auto this winter and mabe selling the procharger and going turbo later next year. I been riding In a couple turbo cars lately and they hall ass gotta love the torque they put out. And it would work out great with an auto
