Long story short there is a screw/ bolt in my intake system that should not have been there. Don't ask how, because that is the biggest question I have at the moment. I will post pics this weekend and update my "Leaning to make fast go fast" thread. After tearing it down last night I found the a SS 3/4" bugle head bolt some how mad it into my post IC intake system or flat out fell/ dropped into the motor during assembly. How? IDK

Motor started running like ass last Sun at the track and was tapping like a follower was out or something.

I always install the spark plugs and tape off the intake runners on the heads as soon as the heads are installed. That makes me think somehow it was dropped into the post IC piping while the motor was out.

Fact is all the drivers side pistons are toast and while be replaced along with cleaning up the head. How it went in and out of the intake and only effected one bake is a mystery to me!

So, my question is, with only 50 miles, 3 dyno pulls, and 5 passes at the track.

Can the rings be reused and will they reseat?

Cylinder walls look new.

Wow, im sorry man. You said the pistons are toast, how so? I would think a valve would have broken off before it made it passed one cylinder.

And to make it even worse. I left the lower radiator hose clamp loose and it came off at 110 mph! Very scary. Best way to describe it is drive down the road at 110 mph and put your left front tire on the centerline. Now imagine your right rear on the left line... Yea, I felt it for sure!

That sucks man. I'm so sorry to hear and I hope it works out for the best.

It will. I have faith in myself.

Holy shit! Sucks to hear man, hopefully it goes back together easy.

Yes, but without the extra bolt...

The valves seem fine. I am going to take it to the machine shop and have it gone through though. It only takes a little trash to keep a valve from seating. It beat up the bottom of the head pretty good, but nothing that will effect the operation of it once the threaded part of the bolt is removed from it. It is smashed into the alum. The pistons are beat to shit though, at least 3 of them anyway. the 4th only has some small marks from debris.

Sadly, we just experienced the same thing... We just pulled the 402" 6.0 out of my buddies T/A. Just installed a brand new 447" LSX setup.. Cranked it, heard a noise, shut it off as fast as possible... Bolt had fallen in the head, don't know how, don't know when, and have no clue what bolt it even is....

It's definitely a bad deal man, hopefully it will be an easy fix for you.

How did one bolt make its way into all four cylinders? Can't be, unless it broke into pieces in the intake and one piece went into each cylinder.

Damn billy....

I know right!

I for the life of me cannot figure it out. I am very anal about keeping shit closed up. I do have teenage kids though and this is a garage build so, IDK.

You should be good. They will reseal.

I hope so. I am tired of buying rings! LOL

I have to admit, for a moment I thought I was reading SEER's thread.

Sucks it happened though, good luck fixing her

My first though when I pulled the JPC intake and herd the rattle! The head of the smashed bolt was in there. I even found a few more of the exact same SS bolts in my spare bolts drawer. Difference between SEER and myself is, I did it all myself. No one else to blame here.

And that is the dilemma that has been going through my head all day. Why only one bank? Fact is there is one head in the intake and one threaded section imbedded in the head.

Did Seer visit your house? At any time?

Wow that is nuts. How would it only go in one bank vs all over the place? That is the weirdest thing I have heard. Crazy.

So sorry to hear about this.

I don't remember what compression you're at but maybe it's time to step the compression up now that you are on E85. I'm shooting for 11:1 on my new build with an iron block but I'm not going for high HP like you, I just want to keep running the lowest boost I can to keep my IAT's down when racing. I got a full set of Manley pistons for 1/2 the cost of what my Diamond pistons cost from my last engine so it may be something to consider.

Bolts always travel between cylinders, that was one of the first things that I found an interesting mystery when working at a racing mating shop. Happens almost every time. I think it has something to do with overlap and the and cam timing. I mean it has to exit the cylinder when the compression stroke is setting up or some thing like that.

Biggest question here is, can the rings be reused at this point?

IMO, they "could" be reused, but I wouldn't. Those rings are alreaded seated to those bores. If the cylinders are fine, I'd scuff them up and use new rings.

my $.02

sorry this happened Billy.
