LCA and Parking Brake Cable

This could be a stupid question, but I'm curious to know what the proper position for the parking brake cable that runs to the rear caliper is with the aftermarket LCAs that don't have openings in the middle like the stock arms. I've seen it ran either way.

Example:

Stock location: has a slot for the brake cable.

Ran under:

Ran over the top:

I routed mine under, when I installed the new trailing arms.

I wasn't sure if anyone has came across any issues with going over or under if a middle slot wasn't available.

Also, if ran under the LCA, it could be caught and damaged if you were to run over something and it caught the cable.


I zip-tied the cable on my 06 over the top of the LCAs. On my 07, the Freedom Racing LCAs had a clamp for the cable, easy peasy.

I didn't find any issues with tension either way I ran it. I just was unsure if anyone has ran into any issues running it one way or the other. If I had relocation brackets and the trailing arms was angled more sharply I can see running it over the top being the best option.

Most of the pictures I've seen from BMR they had ran it over the top, but they all involved relocation brackets that I remember .

Having something snag it on the road was another issues I thought about as well. I was trying to avoid zip ties because it looks sorta tacky since the arms are very visible through my wheels, but if it needs to be done. I'll have to do that.

The loop in the cable from this angle seems more extreme.


My first concern was my tires rubbing it since I run a very wide tire... 325

^that seems like you got some un-needed tension on the cable with how it's bowing.
Take it off and put it up top see if it feels better.

The cable will tell you where it feels comfortable.
I have the bbr billet LCA's and it loops through one of the holes in the LCA with no tension so that's where it wanted to be. lol

I went over on mine because I thought it just looked better like that and then zip tied. its been fine for over 30k miles now

I'm thinking it would probably lay more naturally below the LCA if you do not have relocation brackets, above if you do.

I'll throw a zip tie on it to secure it and keep it from getting snagged by road debris and keep an eye on it.

Just installed my new set from Freedom Racing, and they have the bolt to tie it down.

Otherwise I would probably run it on top to keep it out of the way.

The parking brake cable should go over the LCAs if it cannot go through it. Otherwise, you're putting unnecessary tension on the cable any time your suspension is in full droop, such as on a lift. This is especially true if you have relocation brackets, since the arm is now "lower" than stock.
