What seats are you running?

The upside of the WR bar is that it comes out, completely. I can still use the back seat for kid hauling when it is out. Even though the MM bar has a removeable harness bar as an option, I couldn't see putting my kids back there with the rear support bar that close in proximity to their (admittedly, hard) heads!

The only sign of the bar when it is out is a bit of missing trim at the corners of the back seats

Got my seats from Vorshlag last week and installed them over the weekend. I got the Corbeau Forza Sports, harness bar, and dual slider brackets ( both driver and passenger side ). Install was pretty easy, I don't know how daily driver friendly I think this is. My seating position to still be able to fully engage the clutch puts me in "racing" position all the time and for daily that is a little close to the wheel. I look like little ole granny driving with my elbows on the wheel practically, lol. I haven't installed the harnesses yet, that is this weekend. Should be pretty straight forward.

Those look good.

We'll I found out that regular FX1 seats don't fit a C5 so I need to find relatively cheap seats that will work.

I got the cheapest FIA seats I could. Which the Forza Sports are as far as I could find. Just in case I got nuts and decide W2W would be fun.

Are they narrower than an fx1? How are they for comfort?

I couldn't tell you if they are narrower. They hug my hips enough, not to much. I wear a 33" waist soo. Comfort is still up for debate. For a track day they will be great, keeps me in a great position for racing and I'll be held firmly in place. For daily, because of the way the lifts the legs up ( I assume to help prevent submarining ) I have to sit pretty close to the wheel to be able to fully engage the clutch and the seating position is pretty upright. I'm all torso, no legs kinda of guy so that doesn't help the seating position either. I did sit in a Cobra Imola and Suzuka ( I think that is what it was called ) that also did this so I don't think you can avoid it in a fixed back seat like these. So the jury is still out if I'm going to be able to live with it for daily, I'm getting old(er) so my tolerance for such things might not be as high. I do feel like I'm driving a race car all the time now and that is kinda of cool and kinda not at the same time.

Thanks for the input. I have longer legs so that shouldn't be an issue. Looks like I have some investigating to do.

What kind of budget number you looking at for the setup? Under 1500 for both?

Those Forza Sport seats are more narrow than the FX1 (the medium width option).

I have an FX1 in my garage, like new, that I'm still not sure I'll keep long-term because it's a little loose on me for a racing seat and because it's a little too wide to mount centered on the steering wheel.

I'm a size 36 waist, 6' tall, 206 lbs. For me, the FX1 Pro is a better fit for track day because it's snug on me. The FX1 would be a much better daily driver seat.

I had the FX1 in the car recently, but was very happy to rip it out after the track day was over and return to the stock seats. Sorta like NDSP is realizing.

NDSP, I'm in Frisco, TX too... we should party! :)

Bob you are my same dimensions and the fx1 pro was just a little to snug on me. I may end up with them and just go on a diet since they are nice for a dual purpose cost effective seat.

A buddy of mine just put an FX1 Pro seat into his C6. He thought the FX1 Pro was a little too snug too, so he added a layer of padding up and down his back to push his body a little forward, effectively making the seat more shallow. He likes it.

I too have considered weight loss as a way to fix my seating problems :)

My cost for:
2 - Corbeau Forza Sports
2 - dual slider mustang specific brackets
1 - corbeau harness bar
2 - Schroth Clubman III 6 Point Belt Harness
+ hardware to mount harness lap and crotch belts
+ tax
was $1800.

Which was cheaper than anywhere else I found online, so cuddos to Vorshlag. Subtract the harness bar and your at $1500, subtract the harnesses and harness bar and your at $1000ish

With that setup are you able to use you OEM belts? How would you rate the seats any flex under heavy cornering?

Yes, I'm using OEM belts for daily driving. As far as flex, they don't. Not one bit that I've been able to feel. Very solidly in place. These are steel framed FIA certified seats so I imagine they have to be pretty sturdy to get that cert.

I am interested in the specifics of how you mounted your harnesses.

Yeah, When I started the swap I had the same question. I haven't done it yet, but I'll take pics and post up this weekend. I saw a few pics ( one in this thread and a few from Vorshlag's gallery ) but none showed where the crotch belts mounted, so I ended up reading the rules for NASA and SCCA and doing a few google searches to figure out where to mount those. Basically if you take a straight line down from your chest in seated racing position, your mounting points for the crotch belts needs to be behind the line. I'll take pics of the mounting points sans seat so it will be easy to see.

For the 5ht/6th point mount location(s), you might want to check with the belt manufacturer. They're usually pretty specific about where they fall relative to the plane of your chest.

Just got back from a track day with HOD. No way in hell I would be interested in doing a track day in stock seats again. It's easier to control the car by a long shot. On another note, Bridgestone Potenza RE-11's are amazing.
