Since I first joined this forum several years back, I've always grunted out a little "ugggg" every single time I see someone selling OEM parts they removed from their cars as they upgraded. More than a few times, I've seen them posting months later, a long list of OEM parts they're looking for because they're returning their car to stock. That's when I roll my eyes and say a quiet, "damn..." to myself.

Now I know that there are reasons at the time to sell off those parts that could range from lack of storage to lack of funds, but before you sell off those parts think really hard if it'll came back to haunt you. Because it often does if what's posted here is any indication.

Myself, I've got every single part including brackets, bolts, wiring, k-member parts, axles, bumpers, etc... etc... etc... stored in a corner of garage for my 2008. I even have my stock hood cabled to the ceiling. Why? Because I know that eventually I'll tire of this 2008 and will buy the current Mustang and go to town on that one. But before I part with the '08 to a private buyer, I'll return it to stock.

This is the same thing when I got rid of my 1999 Mustang, and bought this one. But not before returning it to 95% stock (there was no way I was going to try and remove the sub-frames I welded in).

Just my .02.

A sound plan for most.

Me on the other hand, impossible to go back, so all of it was either sold, given away, and yes, even thrown away in the trash.

yeah, some mods I won't be removing even when I sell. Also, when you sell your stuff, worst case you have to buy stuff back for roughly the same amount as long as you priced correctly.

stock block is in Texas , stock trans is under Frankies car springs are under Frankies car, parts spread all over the USA . Some stuff is still in the shed but doubt I would consider selling either car.

In a situation like you described, I agree. Holding on to stock parts is a good idea.

My situation is a little different. Thanks to the salvage title on my car, I'll never sell it to a dealer. I doubt I'll ever sell it, but if I did it would be to an individual and I'd likely leave all the parts on it.

Just depends on your situation.

After making the biggest stupidest mistake (selling my original block and heads) I've kept everthing else and will not part. If I ever come accross a really good deal on a stock long block, performance parts will be flying off the car sold off and returned to stock then traded in on a new Mustang.

My shed is filled with my stock parts along with 3 different exhaust setups and 2 sets of wheels. I could have mine back to stock in a day and trade it in if I so desired. Hell I even have some spare stock parts from others. Not only is it good to have if you are going to sell it, but also if a part breaks you will have something to replace it with right then and there.

Hell yea!! Same here.

The s197 is timeless. The only OEM part I really want to keep are the polished bullitts.

I solved my stock part storage needs by putting them in my dad's garage. Thanks, pop! He finds the parts every once in a while and asks me why I thought this "perfect good" part needed to be replaced... and then he puts it in a much more convenient place for him. I think he still has some stock VW parts in the rafters.

I don't build my car with the plan of putting it all back to stock at some point. There's no need for me to store anything that A)has value, and B)I'll never use anyway. OEM parts are always easy to find, so if I do need something, I'll find it and buy it. Otherwise, it's pointless to store it for an indefinite amount of time.

Lots of people say they'll keep their car forever. Few actually do.

I have the majority of my stock stuff in the attic for when I decide to buy something better. Some stuff I'll just leave on the car because it's not worth reinstalling it.

I can't think of a reason my car would leave me by itself. :roflmao:
One day when I have a kid he's going to own it, we're going to fix it together etc...
