Going to tune carb and put the beast on the dyno tomorrow. We'll finally be able to answer the question - "So, how much power are you making?"


Here are the car's particulars:


2012 Mustang:


- 427cid windsor
- Compression - 10.5:1
- Trickflow Stage 3 hydraulic roller cam with 1.7 rockers
- AFR 205 58cc heads
- QuickFuel 850 mech secondary carb
- Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake
- MSD Ignition (Pro Billet distributor, 6AL2 control module)
- Headers with 1-3/4 primaries
- 3.73 gears
- Tremec Magnum 6-speed manual
- 93 octane gas
- Car has A/C and hydraulic power steering


The dyno is a Mustang in-ground unit, and we'll be taking it up to 6500 RPM.


I'm hoping for *at least* 450 RWHP.


Anyone care to make any predictions about how much the car will actually make?


There will be videos of at least the first and last runs.

Are you looking for 450 Mustang Dyno HP? So 510ish Dynojet HP?

I would like to think it will make 500 dynojet HP. The big question will be the TQ. That should be a BEAST.

If you don't mind me asking what do you think you have into the motor? Carb to oil pan? My current roadrace S197 plan calls for either a stock Coyote, a big Windsor or an LS. I'm weighing my options.

I'm expecting more torque than HP, but I'm really hoping for at least 450rwhp, and if the gods are smiling on me, more than 500. :)

The motor by itself is about $12k (and I bought the cheaper Dart SHP block and got the heads used). The block I got can go to 460cid, but I think it's cooler to say "427" when someone asks how big the motor is. :)

To be honest, if you're concerned about cash, I would suggest going with the LS. You can get em cheap and build good power without much effort, but at the same time, you're sticking a GM motor into a Ford, and you will draw haters like a fly to solidified bull methane. I chose the Windsor "because Ford" and because "the sound". You'll never get a computer controlled engine to sound like that. Ever.

How driveable will it be at the highest hp, any guesses? The ohv motors I've seen on a dyno didn't do so well hp wise. They were usually cut short due to fears of valve float, I'd imagine that your afr heads have the valvetrain to rev fairly high.

Good luck with the motor.

I would expect 475-490 or so at the shoes even considering the small cam and dual plane intake.

It's VERY drivable right now. At the highest hp, I see no reason it shouldn't be just as drivable. Right now, the timing is set to 16 initial and 30 all in. I imagine it will end up near 20 initial and 36 all in.

With the hydraulic cam, we're not going to rev the motor higher than 6500 RPM. If it was a solid cam, we could go to 7500/8000.

That's a sweet combo my man! I'm jealous!

Yeah, it is going to come down to Coyote vs LS. I would rather have the Coyote. But if I can do an LS that only makes the same power as the Yote but will certainly put down more TQ for less money that is probably the way I'll go.

There would be haters, no doubt. If they are so concerned about it they can chip in on the difference so I can afford the Yote.:thumb:

I'm with you there. That is a sweet combo. And none of the new stuff will ever sound like a rumpidy rump Windsor. Yours sounds like a beast. I really like it a lot. Do you have any drive by/fly by video?

Sound very similar to a 393W I had in my fox.
I had a slightly smaller custom cam, a bit more compression (11:1), same heads, but used a Vic jr intake. It made 471/464 on a dynojet with 32 degrees total timing.
With 34 more cubic inches, you'd easily be able to hit your goals on a dynojet. Mustang dynos seem to be all over the map and the weight input of the vehicle can have a huge effect on what the readings will be so who knows.
