I'm trying to put together a forged shortblock for a twin turbo setup. I will be useing the Boss cast iron block,Eagle stroker forged crank, Eagle H beam rods, TSS billet oil pump gears and ARP hardware. Not sure about which piston or rings yet. Any input about piston, rings is appreciated. Also not sure if I need to step up to billet rods at this level. Boost will be around 20 psi so will the heads stay on or is o-ringing. necessary ?

I have Diamond pistons and Total Seal rings in my engine. No complaints. I think JE is another good piston manufacturer.

20 psi isn't what I would consider high boost. Oring the block not required, nor are stainless rings at that boost level. 2618 alloy Pistons, moly rings, with ARP2000 rod bolts and head studs.

If you are really going for 1000rwhp. I would upgrade to billet rods. I wouldn't really trust H beams at those hp levels. They may work fine but they also may not.

Eagle stroker crank and rods are going to require a custom piston since no one shelves those pistons anymore. Livernois was the last to iirc so you could check with them. ModMax can have a set of pistons made for you and they usually go diamond on custom pistons. They don't change anymore for a custom piston either if I remember correctly. Diamond is a good piston.

o-ring is not necessary, I would definitely go with SS rings though if it were me. I run total seal steel rings on Manley 2618 pistons, no problems with them.

Bobby has the same boss block with billet oliver rods in a 323 stroker built by Pro-Dyno, he made 1017rwhp on 93 pump gas at 23psi with our twin turbo kit. Pro-Dyno offers the motor build as well for your goals.

Do you recall what pistons, rings and compression he is running ? I will probably purchase your Stealth kit, I'm trying to build a solid foundation first.

A suggestion would be to search this site on high hp builds. Some work and some don't. It's a very high number to be shooting for.

Any quality made 2618 piston should work. Like Earl mentioned you will be better off with a good I beam billet rod. Equally important will be the rod bolts. You don't want 8740 rod bolts, arp2000 at a minimum. You might also need upgraded wrist pins. Not sure on that one because it's never been a failure point. Pistons aren't usually a failure point either unless it's tune related.

For the most part you are building a race motor. Do your research, develop an educated guess at what should work and then listen to people who have successfully reached your goal. Also listen to those who didn't make it and look for similarities.

Choose your machine shop wisely.

You can ask Bobby. Pro-Dyno can spec and build it for you unless your looking to build it yourself.

I wasn't planning on using billet rods?

You on that budget program though Josh. lol

You also have stock oil pump gears. You have enormous balls if your keeping them for the new 1000rwhp build.

You could be the first person to break an h beam used on a mod motor, lol. The rods are one part that Manley rates. They rate them to 750rwhp with arp2000 rod bolts iirc.

Yeah I know the hp number seems high Bruce but if I want to stay competitive with some of these local street cars it should do just fine. Finding a local machine shop good with mod motors scares the crap out of me. I've always assembled my own motors very carefully. I might end up buying a built shortblock, tearing it down to check every clearance then reassembling it.

Just curious, but what in the hell are you going to do with a 1000hp car? Do you have any supporting mods? Just seems a little overkill. Not meaning to sound rude just curious.

I can think of a few things I would do  And what is this overkill you speak of :nah: Surely you have the supporting mods though..?

There is nothing wrong with what he is doing, other than for the sake of having a 1000hp car, I am just curious as to why, and what other mods does he have to support the 1000hp.

I've owned and built a few Procharged cars in the 600-700 hp range and they were monsters on the street but have lost to big block Chevy cars with nitrous. I've never built a turbo car but I'm looking forward to it. I like racing in the Street National events. Its not that much more going from single turbo to twin, so I will dial back the boost on the street and when I need the power it will be there. The car is paid for so its time to have some fun with it.
