How hard is it to give a out the door price? Damnit i dont want a test drive yet i want hard freaking numbers. This is becoming a giant pain in the ass. Prices not lining up with whats on autotrader etc, not returning emails and freaking selling a car out underneathme... end of rant.

Throwing a number out into the ether is a waste of time. Why would they give you a hard number to take down the street so Joe Smoe can beat it by a hundred bucks? Mustangs are selling well, you might have to get some face time for a real number.

If they had 30 sitting on the lot, nother story. Gotta react to ground truth.

I had good luck dealing through emails with a dealership 175 miles away but I also did my test drives at local dealerships and got hard pricing on similar cars although they were not the color or options packages I wanted. With those numbers I negotiated a price on the car I wanted and drove up to pick it up a week later.

+1

My time is money, just like the customer's is. As an Internet Manager, I speak to 30-40+ people a day. I don't waste their time, and I don't waste mine. Mutual benefit. But to the point in the quote above me, what good does it do for me to throw my best price just for someone to try and shop it somewhere else? Especially if I know/find out they're not local or in the market? Also, some rebates depend on how you plan on paying for the car. TT&L is also slightly different depending on county. Plus, if the customer is trading a vehicle, there's tax credits involved. If they're trading, I need to see the vehicle to put a hard # on it in order to put together an OTD price. If the customer can commit to face time (see and drive the car) then I will commit to giving them the best deal I can. Simple as that.

You bought at a good time Brian, they wanted the 14's off the lot. I heard average time for a 15 mustang on the lot was 8 days. That is a radically different dynamic. The dealer selling a car out from underneath him is an indicator of that.

Why don't you do test drives? Just go in, test drive the car and if you don't like the price, leave. Just don't let the sales me get to you if that's the problem you are having.

Shaggy, admit it. You're the one who snagged that car out from under him. It's always your fault.

What i noticed though those basyards are sneaky, they will list a good deal and then hammer you with inflated fees pricing compared to others. I made it clear i am a serious buyer buy willing to put 10k down. When they just email you back saying "let me know when u wanna come in for a test drive" is a suckers move just to get you to drive it so you can say wow and get lured into a bs price.

They only know your serious if you actually go in and drive the vehicle. It's no ones fault but your own if you let them screw you in pricing.

Its bad enough when the sales manager was suppose to call me today to set something up and never did? Asshole couldnt even call to tell me the car was sold But its ok for them to want me to come in during a snow storm 6 inches. So the second one i was interested in was listed online Car Gurus for 34,892 , the fucker sends me a email back listing it at 36,300 smh

Unfortunately, I'm one of the few dealers in the DFW Metroplex that doesn't list pricing that way. I can't even begin to list all of the dealers that will include rebates that most people don't qualify for (military, college student, etc.) just to be able to show a lower price. Plus we're also one of the only dealers that doesn't do aftermarket pre-loads: putting window tint, nitrogen in tires, and some nonsense "paint protectant" on the car before you buy it, not disclosing it, and then hit you with it after you've agreed to an initial deal.

One of my hang-ups is, because so many other dealers do those things, customers automatically assume we operate the same way. So I lose buiness in some cases before I even had a chance to earn it.

My car listed at $39, got it out the door for a little over $34 plus sales tax. For $40K you better be getting a Shelby or a loaded premium with navigation and all the extras.

I noticed that about alot of there pricing they list a price with all rebates and not what every can qualify for. Thats prob the most irritating thing. How hard is it to list a price that any jo blow can get then put in text rebates for qualified personel
