Will there will be a run on S197 cars shortly?

If you feel nostalgic towards '65-'70 Mustangs, you love the '05-09 cars. It's that simple.

I’m not even nostalgic about them (before I was even born) and I feel they’re the two best eras of Mustang.

1968 is the best looking one IMO.

1969 for me is peak Mustang design.

1969 Mach 1, 2014 GT500, 2008 Bullitt are my top choices.

If the 3V is 'meh' . . . it's because the amount of effort Ford put into it for Mustang use was no better than 'meh'.

Ford could certainly have released the '05-'09 GT with more than 300hp/320lbft at the crank given how little effort is required to extract an extra 50hp.

The main reason I fell so head over heels for the 2005-09 cars was they were so reminiscent of the 1st generation 65-70 fastback models that I admired growing up from my youth. My favorite body style/best looking Mustang has always been the 67-68 fastback.

There was no reason to justify more than the 300hp 3V in 2005. It was the lone pony in the field. There was no Camaro, no Challenger, Pontiac was gone.

The 1969 year was good, but Ford started to "pork it out" even more than the 67/68 did. And 70&up just grew even more.

1969 is my favorite, but the ‘70 got the Cleveland instead of the Windsor, and the Boss 429 got roller rockers. Other than that, the only differences were cosmetic (2 VS 4 headlights, twilight trim, etc).
My brother had ‘65 2+2 289 four spd that was really quick, and a ‘73 mach1 that was fun too.

I always referred to the 71-73 sports roof models as the Flatback lol. Despite being nice looking Mustangs, they just became too large compared to the 65-70 models and also couldn't see shit through the rear view mirror because of the angle location of the rear glass

I read someplace once that the guy responsible for the 71-73 design came from GM And that influenced several elements of the car. One of which was supposedly the wipers being hidden.

Well pontiac wasn't gone yet, it was a dead man walking. the 04 GTO had the LS1 at 350HP, and the 05/06 GTO had the LS2 at 400.

Only 300 HP is what makes it meh, it was just enough. Camaro and Firebird were gone, but they had 325 when they disappeared. I feel like Ford could/should have pushed a bit more instead of just enough

I’d wager a guess that the 300hp figure was settled on because either A) it was enough power for an affordable muscle car with no real threats on the market B) it kept development costs lower OR C) they knew it was a stop-gap until the Coyote was ready..

Coyote was developed in 2 years, so not option C.

I'd say a little of option A mixed with some of option B mixed with a helping of we're selling more of these than we can make. $$$

Nobody called the Mustang with 300 hp in 2005 MEH. It was welcomed with open arms. We always want more. Than as now. But on the whole we loved having 300 hp from the factory. Then came the Coyote...

The power was entirely adequate and all of the parts already existed, the car sounded great and the rest of the powertrain combination was perfected and vetted by prior generations of cars. The panhard was a no brainer, delete one upper control arm, add a panhard bar, just as fox people had been doing for years with the PM3L.

Ford makes Mustangs to make money, that is it. We sometimes get lucky, you know how lucky I am to just add a set of $12/ea conrods from a pickup truck to a otherwise factory reciprocating assembly and it's good to survive 800 hp?

Then came the 07 GT-500, 4 years before the coyote, with a real eng to boot...and a real tranny.
