....yeah.

I havent been able to do much of anything to anything recently as i pulled a muscle in my back which is killing me. Especially since its so cold in the shop now a days.

Today however i got the new steering shaft(column?) in the car. I weighed the whole assembly and it weighs 3.8 lbs. the factory column weighed in at 14 lbs!!! Whats that do for yah!?!? Also its much simpler and it will give me clearance for the wide 4 valve and long tube headers in the engine bay side. Ill finish that side once i get the motor in. For now i just wanted to get it mounted and weld in the brace. This is one of the last things to do to the chassis before i lay some paint down in there.

This is the lowest setting and the first pic was the highest setting...

I drilled 2 holes to give me more range to raise and lower the column. I typically like to drive with the wheel titled up a lot so i wanted some adjustment in there.

I also mounted the AIM displayin the dash panel...

My sweet new Recaro SPG Profis. These fit me much better than the PRO2000s i used in my nissan and porsche...

Now i have to fab up a rear bulkhead/ firewall, mount Willwood Pedal assy., and nut-sert the windows sills. The motor is at the machine shop and i need to order some ARP hardware, Canton oil pan, and gaskets for that. Ive got KW on board helping out with a set of custom coilovers for the project also. Gotta thank those guys for helping me out this season. Hopefully i sell this 3V motor and 5 spd. trans so i can get moving on the rest of this stuff.

I have a couple concerns that I hope you can clear up.

Do you plan to support this more than is shown here?

The way you have it here would be pretty easy to move column up and down.
If you are going to use flat stock like that it would be much stronger if you turned it up on its side.

Is this the height your seat is going to be mounted?

If so your harness bar appears to be too high.
Here is a drawing of the proper height to mount your shoulder harness.

Please take this as constructive criticism. You have a cool project and I'm just trying to help.

I may be incorrect here, but I don't think this is his first rodeo...

Gbrown,

i do plan on adding some more support to that steering column even though its really sturdy as it is, I would rather be safe than sorry. I wanted to hang my Wilwood pedals first and see where they were gonna go before i go triangulating anything. I like that flat stock as its easy to mount things to. The one bar really just holds the dash up, and to stiffen that steering column bar that comes off the "knee bar" of the cage ill probably cut a pc. of it down the center and weld it vertically like you said. That is if i am not able to triangulate it down to the pedal box bracket.

The harnes bar is actually just level right now with the center of the holes in the seat and that is with the seat in its lowest position. If anything i will raise the seat up. Im leaving room for adjustment as many places as possible. I like sitting low, but in drifting i like to be able to see how close i am to opponents in a tandem competition, so while for racing sitting low is best, i personally think in Drifting you should be able to see as much as possible when it comes to the front corners of the car. Some drift guys like siting low still so its probably just a personal thing.

Thanks for the thoughts though and thanks everyone else for the compliments.

Plans are to order the pedal assembly this week and once i get that mounted up and do a couple more things i should be able to paint the engine bay and interior. Things arent moving along as fast as id like, haha.

I should tell you that I've heard terrible things bout Mustang Magic...in fact I've heard them called Mustang Tragic more than a few times. My cousin brought his SN95 Saleen there and they gave him completely wrong information on the car. Just food for though, it can be hard to find a good shop around here.

Not you bro nameth! In reference to a person who came on here and wanted to build a car that would run 9s in the 1320, drift all day and night, be able to tackle willow springs, and reach over 200 mph. yeah, that guy is a fucktard. lol. That wasn't directed towards you or the OP. :thumb:

looks good. whos steering rack and shaft did you use.. i want to save more weigh as well

im using an oem rack for ease of replacement. Most all the steering parts can be sourced through Sweet Manf. or any other circle car supply shop. The guys at ASD helped me pick out what i needed.

Thanks thats good to know when dealing with them on Tuesday I dont really have many other options in my area unfortunately.

I also got a 70mm throttle body but after researching online I think I will cancel installing it . I read so many bad stories of things like the ECU frying after installing it.
