Sorry guys we are not going to release tune numbers until they are final and there is so much we can do with this new setup it's going to take time. Sure we can rush out a 10hp/10tq tune to you but we are going to take some time and get everything we can.

On our dyno this car put down 370 rwhp and we were able to gain a nice amount with only scratching the surface. We will be picking back up on this early next week.

All right damn it I'm going to start taking heads if people don't stop with the BS numbers - Dirty Harry style.

its funny how all the known tuners always talk about putting the wideband as close as possible to the engine.. that diablo would be using a sniffer up the tailpipe..

Actually the wideband is as close to the engine as possible here at Diablo. And there is one in each bank. They are factory in this car and it's best to tune by the factory widebands since that is what the car is going to use for closed loop WOT fueling.

The tailpipe sniffer is there just for a quick easy reference on the dyno graph. And if you are interested, it matched the factory widebands very closely.

lets see, timing, a/f, that would be the basics to start i'd have to guess.

i know the cars will be harder to tune, and eventually they'll get the cam stuff and everything, but power is pretty much made through, fuel and air??

We can change everything! That is what is going to separate one tune on these from another. I can throw together a tune with some global spark added, rev limiter raise and a couple of other things and look like a hero. But the fact is there are a tremendous amount of things to tune on this car if you want it done correctly. A mind blowing amount of spark tables due to the VCT, all the VCT control stuff. etc etc. When we release a tune it will be done right I can assure you of that!

Ken... are you saying the new 2011 uses wide band O2 sensors? Also, it uses these WB's in a "Closed" loop WOT mode from the factory?

Yes they have dual widebands from the factory and yes they operate in closed loop at WOT.

There are MANY factors involved in tuning these new cars that will take some time to fully take advantage of. But I plan on exploring every corner of the PCM and try and make our tunes the best! It would be criminal to throw a hack tune on such a masterpiece.

Ken, do you know if it might be possible, given enough capacity of injectors and fuel system to create some flex fuel tunes for E85 because of the widebands???

Open the gas door on your car and you will see on the inside a circled E85 logo with a slash thru it. I'm not sure why Ford would go to the trouble to basically say no E85 for this car at all considering its just a matter of changing the calibration but I'm sure they have their reasons. I'll poke around and see if I can find anything out because I love E85. :yes1:

It's because the car is not setup from the factory to be a flex fuel vehicle.

Can you give us any idea about what increases in performance you have seen just adjusting the regular settings you mentioned above without messing with the vct yet?

If not numbers how about a seat of pants assesment?

have you been able to get the a/f ratio to a flat 13.x?

When i dyno'd mine i was soo lean until 6k and then at the sudden a little fat, was wondering if there was any more low end torque to be had by adjusting this and if turning off any tq mgmt or anything else has granted any extra torque on the low end.

I can't give numbers but you can expect our performance tunes to be in the 10-20 rwhp range

13.x is too lean for these cars, they want to be richer.

Do you have a dyno graph of your car? Can you tell me where the wideband was placed?

We have found some very interesting behavior related to the car commanding itself to stay stoich (14.7:1 for E0) at WOT and are still tracing down when/why this happens. This is an example as to why these tunes need to be done correctly and not just a blanket timing adder.

For instance, if you add a blanket 4 degrees everyone and the car goes into this lean mode still, how do you think your engine will like it? Luckily we have knock sensor to help keep damage away but you certainly don't want to use this (depending soley on KS) tuning method as a general practice.
