I went to two different Ford dealerships and found something that is very interesting. When the trunk lid was opened, the left and right rear of the trunk edges were open, almost in a sqaure type cutout near the tail lights. It did not appear that the trunk area is sealed and water or debris can flow the area between the inside of the trunk and the outer rear quarter panel. Upon closer inspection, I found that there appears to be no place for the water to go and I am wondering is this normal?

If so, what happens to the water?

If not, what is the fix for this problem?

Can that area be sealed so that water does not get into the area around the tail light covers and on the wires?

And could the designers at Ford have dropped the ball with this?

I really, really like the car I just do not want to get something that is going to rust out from under me as I live in Oregon where we get a lot of rain.

ETA- Not exactly a "tech" motor type question, but i was unsure as to where to put it. Mods, please move if needed. I really just want to a good, solid answer.

Thanks!

There is a rubber seal under there that spans the length of the whole trunk lid, that's just the metal that sticks out the way they designed it.

I was getting water in the trunk of my '05 down on the passanger side where that vent is. The water seems to have been coming in where the arm that the trunk lid swings on bolts to the car. I could see drips under there where a seam is after I would wash the car.

I ended up unbolting the passanger side of the trunk and putting some sealant in between and it has helped alot but it still has a slight leak. I need to get something better to seal that spot.

Hmm, so no water gets into the tail light panel area...sweet.

I get water on the passenger side of the trunk in my 07. There are actually drain vents on the inner fender to let the water out on mine.

Is this a seasonal thing, how often do you clean out the drain vents?

Any damage thus far?

Everytime it rains hard its there, it drains and then some will sit everytime below the drain, when i see it i soak it up with a rag and wipe it out.

Here took some pics of where the water gathers ,and it sometimes will be full up to this drain/vent thing.

That vent is to help your car doors close without too much internal air pressure. That is the same spot I'm getting water as well. It seems to be coming in between where that plate the strut attaches to and the body of the car.

I thought I was the only one getting water in this area...I really need to do something about it since I am starting to see what looks like some rust forming down there. Friggen annoying.

Thats kinda funny, the whole short drop glass thing pretty much solves that problem already lol

Yeah it is annoying but its not too high on the list of things to do with the car right now, im sure i will look into fixing it eventually.

My car was a DD and if it was in heavy rain I could see up to an inch of water in that area. Once it was no longer a daily driver it would still get water down there when I washed it, but it was much much less.

Would you maybe want to drill a couple small holes in the low spots of that corner to let the water drain out the bottom. I know it sounds messed up to drill holes in a brand new car but if the sealent doesn't work you could always give that a try
