No disresepct intended, if it came across that way I apologize. However, I didn't say a notchy SHIFTER. I said they ALL do it. I've driven lots of Mustangs with lots of different manual transmissions. T5, T45, TR3650, T56, TR6060, TKO600, and the MT82. Every single one of them is notchy, especially when cold. GM and Chrylser use the same transmissions. They're going to have exactly the same issues.
You yourself explained why this rubs you the wrong way. You're a truck guy. You've never been in the manual transmission pony car/muscle car scene. That's ok, nothing wrong with that. These manual gearboxes are just not super smooth. Do I know why? No. But I know it's the norm. So, unless it totally denies entry into the gear, I'm sure you don't have a problem. My GT500 had a severe problem with absolutely denying entry into second gear. It caused me to get my ass waxed by a freaking Charger R/T once. How embarrassing. My 540HP, $50,000 car got smoked by a 345HP family boat because the expenive transmission that's used by GM and Chrysler for their high end cars too has an issue. Did I blame Ford? No, I really didn't. I blame Tremec, for not building a gearbox that was up to the claimed quality.
This MT82 is the smoothest shifting transmission I've ver had my hands on. It's a HUGE step in the right direction. I'm sorry that your experience isn't what you expected, but I think the masses speak for themselves.
Just my .02.
