Good stuff, well documented, I'd like to see where you launch and shift at on runs as well if you don't mind, that is a big debate as well lol

Well, the launch is a tricky thing on street tires. It never seems like it is the same for every run. A lot of clutch slipping has to happen.

And, I have been shifting at 6200 lately.

Long tubes really arent that bad. I would get a belt to bypass the power steering and see what you could do with that because it is well documented it helps.

I think the long tubes would help the engine breathe better at higher rpm due to the increased scavenging effect. I have similar plans for my car. Your setup is almost exactly like mine but i dont have tires that can hook on the street or the track. My times arent even respectable enough to post because of this. Great thread, can't wait to see your next times.

I bought a short belt just for the track to try this it's a 650k6 and fits great, I tried it out, now I don't have a problem turning even though it's a bit difficult, but what I am wondering is if it will break something by putting more stress on that skinny rod?

I wouldnt think it would hurt anything. I havent tried it yet but next season is going to be my real season I have tires and some other goodies that should help my lackluster driving.

Would it be possible to run (or even find) a belt that would bypass the ps and ac just for track use? Like I said, I've never had my car to the track but if I do take it I want all the power I can get.

You can't bypass the AC or your tensioner will not be in a position to work, also the ac pulley freewheels unless you turn the AC on.

So basically it's not pulling any HP down turned off?

Nope just a free pulley when the AC is off, there is a clutch in it.
plus there is no way you can go without a tensioner lol

im pretty sure wes@tps did a dyno test of a shortbelt and gained nothing. because the pump doesnt really draw any power unless you are turning. someone should dig up the thread.

This makes since (to me anyway, but like I've stated before I am no mechanical guru).....but how do these engines make so much more HP on an engine dyno with all the accessories off then they actually make when in the car.
Unless the power loss figures between the crank and rear wheels are wrong I don't understand.

I don't want to do this just yet. I have a goal to run this car as quick as possible as it sits in my driveway.

I want to drive it down, lower the tire pressure in the rear, and race it.

After I feel that I have tapped it out, I will start doing things like the short belt, and removing weight like the spare tire, jack, passenger seat.

You probably already know this and it goes against your go still I guess but a belt swap takes about 10 min. with simple tools.

Right now, I am going through the traps in 3rd gear at 6200 rpm, which I think is pretty damn good. Im going trough at an optimum rpm, and I am saving a shift. This is on the stock 3.55 gears.

But, I just can't help but wonder if 4.10 gears would help me or hurt me. I would be shifting once more, and on I just might fry the hydes on street tires.

But, the seat-of-the-pants-ometer would benefit from them for sure.

What do you guys think?

i dont think so if you are already getting 1.8 short times with street tires. unless you put slicks on it but you time would get better with the 3.55's too. i wasnt real impressed with the 4.10's. from all my racing in "mexico" they didnt really do much but get me worse gas mileage.
