Glad to see you're making progress! As far as the original v6, same thing happened to one I picked up in a donor (which now has a GT drivetrain): all the coolant blew out the the thermostat housing broke, overheating/seizing the engine.

Regarding the cluster, you already got it in. Not that hard of a job mechanically to swap.
As far as the 'idiot lights', or error lights that show problems, here's siome insight:
the cluster is 'programmed' to match what is in your car upon ti time of manufacture. This specification can be described as the "as-built" configuration. Differences can include: ABS (which will show/hide the ABS error light and brake light), TPMS (tire pressure monitoring was not present in pre-2007), and traction control. Depending on what is installed in the v6 body, these features may or may not be present. Then if you plug in a GT or GT500 or V6 cluster from a car that had these and your car did not, the light will show all the time when you turn the key on. More of an annoyance, but also distracting until you get used to it.
The solution is to program the cluster to match what is in your car. It is extremely easy if you have the original cluster, using Forscan or IDS software to connect to the car and program the replacement cluster. But if you do like I did, got a 6-gauge cluster and tossed the original one, the replacement can still be pogrammed, but you have to obtain the as-built data configuration (available online from Ford), and program the code into the cluster from Forscan or IDS.
An improperly programmed cluster will still function normally otherwise, but will just show one or more of these other error lights if those systems do not exist in the car.

Hi Everyone.

Here's an update:

Good news: I got a 6 gauge cluster, and it went right in, no fuss, no bother. No warning lights. Odometer mileage was close, so I'm not going to bother to reset it.

Bad news: I dropped a screw down the dashboard (not a disaster) but the bigger problem is that the oil pressure gauge doesn't work. I have a sneaking suspicion that it might be the sender unit on the engine.

Does anybody know how to test this? I don't even know where the oil pressure sensor is anymore. (4 liter SOHC Cologne V-6. I once knew where they were on the 2.8 OHV Cologne V-6......)

Also, the Driver Information Display Switch (6R3Z-18578-AA) seems to have vanished from the marketplace. Anyone have a good source for one?

I may have an extra switch. As far as I know, the 4R and 6R are the same in looks and functional.

I typically get $35 shipped for them.

I solved my six-gauge cluster problem. I bought a car that already had that feature. Unlike so many of you who have mechanical abilities: I don't and I wasn't going to let Ford rip me off. So bought this.

Cost a lot more than putting in a gauge cluster but some nice features came with it. Newer, original owner had every whistle and bell installed in this 2012 GT, came with 62,000 miles and my wife likes it better than our 08. I got my gauges and a happy wife.

No question. I didn't jump into it. looked at it for three weeks and then bought it. I'm rapidly approaching 86 years old. Citing a previous post, get what you want. (my part= if you can). I think I mentioned earlier, it didn't make the car run any better.

I have the original window sticker. He paid close to $64,000 as I recall. I paid $15,000 plus my trade in. But you're right.

Many thanks to "Samos3" for selling me the buttons I needed! They arrived earlier than expected, plugged right in and worked as expected. I'll have to issue an official "Good Seller Alert" on him.

Now I just have to figure out how to get the oil pressure gauge to work. As previously mentioned, I suspect that the problem is the oil pressure sensor on the engine. (or lack thereof.....)
