2010 stock mufflers fit on a 2006?

So i ran accross a set of stock mufflers from a 2010 and was wondering if they will fit on a 2006?

I am in Germany and they have strict laws on sound. I need to cut about 5 decibles. My car is a Saleen with the magnaflow Saleen mufflers, high flow cats and pypes long tubes.

I know i will need to cut the stock tips off and put turn downs to avoid burning up my rear valance. I will literarlly put the mufflers on drive 1/2 mile, pass inspection, and then take them right off.

Just wondering about fitment at least from the exhaust pipe size and routing to the mid pipe?
I honestly dont care how it looks...

The tips on my 2010 FRS-500's are exactly 1" longer than the tips on the 05-09 FRS-500's. That's the only difference.

I would say that you could easily install the 2010 mufflers on your 2006.... except that the 2010 tips will extend straight back 1" further vs oem 2006 tips.

The oem 2010 mufflers are very quiet, too quiet... ( with oem cats, exhaust etc). But with LT's and high flow cats, you should still easily pass the sound test.

How loud (decibels) are you allowed in Germany..and where do they take the measurement ? Like 1 meter directly behind the car or what ? Do they measure in line with each exhaust tip or something else?

They measure about a foot behind the car close to the ground and then rev the engine to 3000 rpms.

Well going to try and pass inspection tomorrow morning by stuffing the outside tail pipes with steel wool deep enough so they cant see it and see if that works. If not will buy those stock mufflers...

The steel wool trick has been around since the 60's. But test it 1st. I know guys who did the steel wool trick, passed the inspection..... then 2 blocks away, wind the eng up...and out blew the steel wool !
Make sure the steel wool stays put....up to 3.5 krpm.

IF the steel wool comes flying out on one or both sides.... the jig is up.

On my 2010, in OD (5th gear)...... at 160 kmh, I'm at 3000 rpm. At 80 kmh, I'm at 1500 rpm.

IMO, doing a sound test, just 1 foot behind the car..and close to the ground ( which is reflective) is nuts.
Standard test for loud speakers..is exactly 1 meter in front of the speaker... and in line with each driver.
So with a typ bass/mid range / tweeter setup... the test is done at 3 x different freqs.... one for middle of each driver's range.

Sound drop off is a logarithmic function. Take the measurement 2 feet behind the car, and the level will drop by 6db. Take the measurement 4 feet behind the car, and the level drops another 6db.
8 ft behind the car drops another 6 db.

At 8 feet behind the car, the level will show 18db lower..... vs 1 ft behind the car.

Good luck with the steel wool. You need just enough to do the job..without impeding the exhaust.....and increasing back pressure too much.

Yeah, automotive constipation could become a problem. Better have some Ex-Lax (exhaust laxative) ready.

The exhaust has 4 tailpipes...just blocking the outside two. Will put the steel wool in a block down the road hopefully pass inspection coast down the hill and pull the steel wool out.

I have tried it and it will stay in...well i hope it stays in...

If each side has just one pipe... that diverges into 2 x tail pipes, it might not work. With any back pressure, the exhaust may well just flow though the mating tail pipe...which has no steel wool. But then again, you only need to knock the overall level down 6.5 db. And blocking the outer 2 may well do the trick.

Good luck. I still think testing just 1' behind car is silly. If they did the test at just 6" behind the car, the level would increase 6db. And another 6db increase, if measured at 3", etc.

What's next? Do they have limits on chainsaws, weed wackers, etc ?

It has one pipe going into the muffler and 2 coming out. In 2005 Saleen actually had a vacuum actuator that would open up the outer two dump pipes. Is essience i and mimicking that minus the actuating part. I just hope it is enough. If not i will just buy the stock mufflers.. maybe I can distract them and get them a little further away from the car. They told me they love the way the car sounds!

And yes they regulate the sound of EVERYTHING here...chainsaws included!
