I've been watching a few GT500 videos that are doing 10s (one of them from Evo) and they are usually pushing a good 200+ HP more than what these 5.0s are doing. Does the extra weight (~300 lbs) of the GT500 really make THAT big of a difference?

Interesting... To me, 300lbs difference doesn't seem like it would be a huge detrimental effect(no more than 3-4 tenths) to track times. But when I factor in that most of that extra weight on the GT500 is over the front tires(attributed to iron block, supercharger, intercooler, and hydraulic power steering), which negatively effects weight distribution, it makes a little more sense.

I still don't see how a GT500 needs 200+ HP to match a modified 5.0's times though.

These cars are running race seats and light weight wheels so the difference is a lot more than 300 lbs. Couple that with a 1.40 60' and a seasoned driver and you can see why that 200 HP advantage starts to diminish. A properly setup car will win way more often than a car with more HP. I should know since mine isn't set up worth a shit and is about 5-7 tenths too slow for the power it makes.

Well the GT500 videos I see run the same kind of wheels and tires and I believe they have similar suspension mods. But I'd think they would have to to run 10s. I've never seen stock street tires/wheels do those kinds of times.

Taking out both front seats and replacing one with a race seat is fine, but I don't see that making such a huge difference. The driving quality I'm seeing on the 10 sec GT500s is just as good and sometimes by the same driver of the new 5.0s.

Perhaps there's a lot to what 470 GT/CS said about the weight dist being biased on the front.

I had a 07GT500 w/563rwhp on stock rims and dr's that ran a best of 10.65@130 with a 1.55 60'and my 09 w/330rwhp 11.99@112 with a 1.57 60'.so my point is this the right drivers can make less hp run better et's.

Nope. They claim weight reduction. And since they had to pull the seats and use a racing seat to run 10.55 on the bottle I seriously doubt they put the seats back in
