I think your funny bone is broken. That was sarcasm.

I know you don't know me, but the people that do know (that's a lot of "knows"!!) that I'm the guy who wanted the 2015 Mustang to be "Aston Martin-ish" and have a Coyote that rev'd to 8,500-9,000rpm. That's a modern muscle car to me.

That's cool. I just felt like naming the benefits of the 2015. :)

Y'all bitches argue bout evythang!!

Next years model will always be superior. In some way.
Of course they better be on their toes if they're going to make them look better than the 05-09's. They've had 5 model years of trial & error and have yet to accomplish that feat!

So a lighter car with more power won't be as much of a "muscle car"?

LOL indeed.

nope. a lighter car on a world chassis with IRS, smaller in all dimensions and complete departure form "mustang" style, offered with v6(turbo) and four cylinder(turbo) power...

or a solid rear axled, retro styled, living tribute to the 69-70 mustang?

one sounds like a "muscle car" and one sounds like a "sports car". guess which one? :asshat:

Well, the 1964 Mustang was 6.5" shorter, 5.7" narrower, 4.4" lower, and 1088 lbs lighter than the S197. I guess the S197 is the only true "muscle" car.

Oh. The "look, the fire, the flavor of one of the great European road cars." That's strange. So the first Mustang was actually styled like *gasp* European cars?!

Got to say... I don't care if the new Mustang has a turbo'ed 6 banger that make 1,000 HP, a turbo'ed 6 banger is not a muscle car. And I thought Ford learned their lesson on IRS with high HP in the US market? Guess not...

I hope I'm wrong, that's for sure.

IRS technology has come a long way since '04! I'm pretty sure they know what they're doing now.

What I find funny is everybody is always beating up on IRS when in fact Chevy and the Vettes have been doing it right for years.

Epic Facepalm comment here from the typical ignorant Mustang owner who only knows "Cobra IRS for teh drag race lose". The compromises made to fit an IRS in the space for a live axle severly compromised more than just the geometry, it compromised the strength too. There are a ton of ground up IRS units that are plenty capable for big power and drag racing so please dont confuse that abomination of an IRS with one designed from the ground up.

On top of that do you really expect Ford to ignore the entusiasts that drag race their cars? You would be stupid to think they will. The Cobra was designed for roadcourse duty and tons of folks decided to drag race them instead. The same is true for the Boss 302. Who doesnt cry when folks with Torsen rear diffs grenade because of drag racing and the owner QQs on the forums about Ford letting them down? I dont.

Will they be putting in the 3.7 still? Only way I'll buy it. That engine gets me chubbed every time I think about it.

I wasn't around, but was there this level of hilarious banter when the coyote was announced?

There are already prototype stick axles in development for the S550. They will be ready by the time the car is available.

It’s a good thing too. Everyone knows you can’t go fast with a IRS.:thumb:

You've never see a turbo'ed 6 cylinder car before? You make this sound like a mythological creature.

I know companies are making good strong IRS. Look at the true HMMWV (HUMVEE). Those are amazingly strong independent axles systems.

My point is Chevy Corvette isn't Ford Mustang. The IRS from Ford sucks.

First off... no need for name calling.

Secondly, I had no idea the Cobra had IRS. I thought the SN95 and New Edge were abominations in the visual esthetics department and ignored them completely.

I was thinking of their compact SUV like the Escape and other junk box vehicles with terrible IRS.

With that said about the Cobra... everything else you directed toward me is basically pointless. It's all information I know and agree with.

They're still making pushrod motors!

How is that a bad thing? Just because it's an older way of doing things? This style of V8 has it's advantages and does not seem to be hurting the new LT1 at all.

My LS7 is a beast of an engine yet is very high revving and gets just as good if not better MPG than the 5.0, and it's 427ci! It takes very little to make this engine's HP shoot waaaay the hell up. It takes quite a bit more to get a 5.0 to the same levels. Not saying the 5.0 is bad, I think that engine kicks ass and I wish I had one, but it's ignorant to think the LS engines are behind the times.

Ls7 will always be one of my favorite engines of all time. Also, irs isn't a bad thing, the 03-04 cobras were a cannibalized setup that was hack job and not ever meant to withstand any sort of punishment vs the new irs that was built from the ground up. Part of me hopes they can find a way to retrofit it to the current platform at a reasonable cost.

... but when someone says muscle car, do you think smooth, low and aerodynamic with hard curves and flared fenders?

I think two door coupe or fastback, rear wheel drive, front engine, manual transmission, and most importantly...big power. How that power is made is not much of a concern to me.

The new 5.0 DOHC is a tech wonder. But if Ford made a 3.5 Ecoboost that matched the current horsepower (not hard to do) and made more torque everywhere (already does that) while getting better mpg's (pretty sure it'd do that too), I'd take the v6 every single time.

Don't bother me with that cockamamie "it don't sound like a V8" bullshit or claim some crap about it not having the feel of a V8. I can't believe I actually read that some where once. 400 ft-lbs from like 2000-5000 rpm trumps 390 peak. If you've driven or ridden in a big block car. You know torque. Torque good. Torque everywhere great!
