If the 5.2 displacement number is true, One can only assume that the extra cubes are attained by increased stroke, if the Coyote engine (and block) are the basis for the Voodoo project. Addtional stroke would be worse for the flat plane version, but we already see some of the limitations in the Coyote block as a result of the thinner cylinder bores. This might not be an issue with sticking to a naturally aspirated path.

De-stroked 6.2 block with Coyote heads Tri-VCT, Direct injection, and flat plane crank would be nuts! I think I need to put my crazy motor, with no chance of being built ever thinking cap off.

The 6.2 deck height is pretty tall. A reduced deck height would work with new 4V heads. It's 9.41". I'm sure that's not what they are doing though. More likely it'd be a 94mm bore within a revised coyote block. It'd be a bump of 1.8mm in bore. Not huge. Hell they might use the same larger bore technique as the the current 5.8.

It's not a rumor. There are VooDoo motors being tested. Flat plane and non flat plane versions.

Do you happen to know if any of those are TT? I assume then that it would be possible to get a hold of a VooDoo block and use it for a build with my car or any other 5.0 for that matter if they are developing a flat plane and cross crank version of the VooDoo engine.

I was thinking maybe opening up the bore a little bit and using their PTWA technology for the block would help gain some CI's

I have heard that there are some EcoBoost 5.0's on the dyno and they make big power. But not much more.

There are I think three TT Coyote Cobra Jet setups out there with one in a running car that does make it down the track. No news on if that will be a future Cobra Jet combination though.

I don't think there is much of a future in a TT Coyote unless they come up with a improved block.

Maybe to you it is. I’d bet there are a lot of people that don’t know its not a “swap”. I’m OCD like that.

I’m not sure putting “Coyote heads” on a 6.2L would show a big improvement though. Have you seen the 6.2L heads? They are AWSOME!! They look like Pro Stock heads compared to Windsor stuff. I think fully leaned on Coyote heads flow about 330cfm on the intake side. I think you can get 360cfm out of the 6.2L heads. Not too shabby for a 2v head. It would be nice to have the variable twin cam setup for tuning though.

My tuner was playing with the 6.2L when it first came out. With stock displacement, 11:1 compression, mildly ported heads, re-grind cams, stock truck intake, headers and 3” exhaust it made 505hp through a C4 on his dyno (that’s NA). Tuned Coyote Mustangs through a manual make about 370hp on the same dyno. And you can go 400+cu in with the 6.2L. If it could be had with an aluminum block I would seriously consider a 6.2L build. With a blower/turbo you could probably pull off 1000rwhp on 93 octane.

Or a 429cu in Coyote motor would work for me too.

I posed this same question on another forum:

I was contemplating the possibilities of how this engine could have come about as we've heard several rumors referring to its development.


I can't help but think that with the massive potential of the Coyote that Ford would want to come up with a version of it that can make enough power for a specialty line while still holding up to Ford's stringent durability expectations.


I'm also working off the educated guesses that:
1) the Trinity V8 doesn't fit the s550
2) the Coyote V8 does fit the s550
3) it's more cost effective to modify an existing mill than to engineer a new one



This led me to wonder if the rumored "5.2 Voodoo" is a Coyote block that uses the PTWA technology used in the aforementioned Trinity which would do away with the Coyote's current cylinder liners and allow for a slightly larger bore. This would serve two purposes; more displacement and unshrouding of the valves allowing for even better breathing than the already heady airflow numbers and rpm capabilities of the Coyote. Add a little higher compression and DI, and you have a high rpm screamer capable of 500-550 hp. Lower the compression a bit and add forced induction in the form of a TVS or (more likely IMO) EcoBoost technology and offer a 650 hp monster.




It's no FPC, but IMO is a more cost-effective solution for offering high hp in a more confined engine bay with ever-tightening emissions and CAFE requirements.

Didn't mean to come off as being short with you. A 4v 6.2 with Tri-VCT would be badass too. There were rumors that such a head may have been in the works, but who knows how reliable that was.

That was the data from the Ford consumer survey. Who knows if it's really accurate.
