298 stroker would be stock bore...if your block can be done that way I would recommend it. That way, if you have an issue in the future you may just be able to bore out your block and not have to get another one.

I just went through this when an exhaust valve head snapped off, and if my block was a stock bore I could have most likely just bored the cylinders out and wouldn't have had to get another used block for my rebuild.

A 4.6L 3V 298 CID & 302 CID use the exact same size bore - 3.552". Rods are also the same length - 5.850".

The differences are the stroke of the crankshaft - 298 = 3.3750" vs 302 = 3.3800" and the pin bore location in the piston. Changing the location of the pin bore in the piston allows the rod length to remain the same even with the .050" longer stroke.

That's not the case with my set-up....my last engine was a 3.750 stroke crank with a 3.572 bore which gave me a 302 stroker and my friend Paul(againstallodds1) has the same 3.750 stroke crank with the stock 3.552 bore which gave him the 298 stroker.

I know that the 3.750 stroke cranks are hard to come by now but I'm still able to use mine after having it mag'd to be sure it was still structurally sound and my new build will be right in the middle with a 3.562 bore.

What Todd is stating is correct, but because yours was bored, it made it bigger. The difference in the 298 and 302 "kits" is the stroke usually. Mine is currently the same as yours, 298 , 3.75 over bored .020 over making it closer to a 302.

I think it goes like this

3.551 bore + 3.75 stroke + 5.85 length rods = 298 (My old configuration)
3.571 bore + 3.75 stroke + 5.85 length rods = 302 (my new set up)
3.551 bore + 3.80 stroke + 5.85 length rods = 302 (saleen stroker)
3.571 bore + 3.80 stroke + 5.85 length rods = 306 (bored out saleen)

You new motor will be a 301 wont it?

Mine is a 3.582 bore with a 3.75 stroke with 5.85 rods and that is a 302.
