Well I went and installed the 302E from JDM. A little back ground in Dec 08 I dyno'ed the car at Brenspeed it made 454hp and 438 tq. The weather conditions were 46 degrees 14% humidity. The only motor affecting thing I did was switch out the engine and removed the cats (driverside blew out). I dyno'ed somewhere else and made 466hp and 462tq. 76 degrees and 30% humidity. A gain of 12hp and 24tq. I run 93 octne. I went straight from my tuner to the track and ran a best of 11.63@115.

In may of 09 I ran 11.25@122mph. I was able to run alot of 11.3 and a few 11.4. Then this spring I couldnt do better the 11.7@117. The only changes to the car from May 09 til this year.
1. rollcage ( maybe lose a .1)
2. alum. driveshaft (gain .1)
3. d-specs shocks and struts

Here are my questions
1. What the hell is wrong with my car?
2. Shouldnt the 302 over a 281 make more hp?
3. I was told I have 20 degrees of timing at peak hp and 16 degrees at max tq. I dont know Brenspeeds timing was. Should I be running more timing?
4. do you lose any boost going to the bigger stroke?

Well it was different dynos both times so Im sure that has something to do with the numbers as well as the heat and humidity. Im sure you gained more than 12 hp

A 302 stroker over the stock 281 isn't a big change, not sure what you were expecting? 10-15rwhp is the average gains for that setup. What compression?
Also the weather conditions and different dynos completely throws comparing those numbers out the window. Now go turn the boost up on that built block!

d specs travel less, weight of rollbar ( which will contribute to better transfer of power b/c less flex ), ... are you comparing best times run in great air, compared to summer air and 'getting used to new setup' times?

Yeah you won't see a huge gain going from a 281 to a 302, its the fact that its forged and more boost can be applied to make more power. I would think that you should be running similar ETs but like mentioned above the summer heat can be playing a role

the motor is 9.8 cr the same as the stock one. I was told be JDM the 302 was good for around 40 hp. So at the wheel it should be around 30 rwhp. I know when you are tring to sell something you make it sound as good as possible.
The car has not run well all year. I went to the track in april and may (not hot) and the car couldnt end better the a 11.7 and I couldnt get past 117mph. I would have thought same time each year it would run about the same times.

Did you retune the car after you put in the stroker or just use the same tune that was on the 281 ? I've been debating this motor as well but 12HP gain for $600 more than the Aluminator shipped is not that impressive. Hell, that is probably due to the cat delete.

Am I the only one noticing the 12HP increase YET the 30 degrees increase in temperature as far as the dyno numbers are concerned. Thirty degrees is quite a difference in temperature as far as power is concerned. I'm pretty confident that 30 degrees difference in temps is leaving at least another 20-30HP on the table compared to your first pull in 46 degree temperature. Don't worry about it and drive the piss out of it!!

i didnt use the same tune as the original 281. It was retuned.
I was running lower 11's and low 120's at the track last year and this year I couldnt do better then 11.69 and 117mph that is with the same motor. I thought with the new motor I would be atleast there I was last year. Im not and I am tring to figure out why?

so get on the phone and pick JDM's brain a little, no harm in that.

I used to have a 97 cobra that was fully built with ported heads, blah blah blah. Vortec at 13 psi. Car dynoed 582 RWHP. Installed a stroker shortblock, put it back on the dyno, everything the same and it made 617 RWHP. Stroker's work.

First off, what boost are you running? What cams? I am running stock block, Hot Rod cams and a 2.95" pulley and I am making more power than you on a JDM mail order tune. Last run back in April, I was almost in the 10's. Something doesn't sound right at all. Please list your complete setup so we can get the full picture.
