I have been through this in my head many times over. Been away for a few days just saw this thread.

The potential of the new 4 valve 5.0 is untapped... look what we can pick up power wise on the 3 valve with just high liftcams...

Things to consider on the 5.0 that arn't out yet-

Cams, valve springs
Intake manifold
Underdrive pulleys
(by passing power steering and ac will give a little extra)
Head porting is now getting down but won't see the potential until the big lift cams are released.
Bumping the compression even higher for the NA (mahle and diamond just released some pistons)

These motors are going to be able to spin to 8000 rpms and use every bit of hp there..

Now... I have figured I can get another 40-60 hp out of my set up... everyone would probably agree with a stroker 11:1 compression or even higher it can be doable and a bigger set of cams. Maybe get into the 10.4's-10.5's? Still street able on my application? In a full weight car add some more tenths.

This is where the NA pride kicks you in the teeth... To revamp a whole new set up.. not just shrinking a pulley or turning up the boost. I have decided the new motor is the way to get 500+ on the motor and aim for that next stupid ET. I am very pleased where my NA 3 valve got me with 400hp and I know there is still some left the way it sits, I just havn't had the luck to get out and do some more testing / Maximizing.

Like we have all said before Chad NA build's is just asking for punishment on modulars, are you sure you still want to go down that painfull road? lol I mean the 3 valve will make gods of power under boost and anyone will tell you that. The main reason for the 5.0 swap is the All motor potential and to hang the badges on the side of the fender. Because if you want all out big power modular we would be going with low compression 5.4's with ford GT heads etc.

I guess the main question is.... WHAT are you trying to go or get out of your car Chad? lol

I would think that a 302 at 11:1 CR is going to give you roughly the same results. The major advantage is in the valves. Think of the 2v 4.6 vs. the 3v 4.6. The extra valve makes a big improvement.

If you get a 302, 11:1 CR, 4v heads... you have the coyote engine performance. I would think the 302, 11:1 CR engine with some P&P heads and high lift cam on a 3v will still make some great power

Matt mentioned taking the coyote and bumping the CR higher. I don't think that is a safe move. Just about every fuel company recommends race fuel for 12:1 and higher NA engines. That is a reliable fuel limit, not an engine limit.

The bottom line is, each gen is going to get better and faster (until the EPA screws that up again). It should be fun to see what the builders get out of them. Thats for sure.

There is a majority here that swear that pnp heads and cams on 3v arent worth the $ to hp...

I agree, PNP heads and cams are so not worth it. I mean, I only picked up 140 HP and shaved 8/10's of my ET... that was the worst $4,500 I ever spent. LOL

I told you not to post when you're loaded up on Vicodin and beer. :roflmao:

There goes my whole weekend!
