my 16 year old daughter has that covered but thanks anyway

PS: I may not want this documented depending on the results. I keep reading over every build thread I can find to make sure I haven't overlooked anything and it sure seems there are more builds that have gone bad recently than successfully. I'm sure it's just last minute jitters.

Amazing that I have built much larger engines, worth a whole lot more money, for 20 over years and never hesitated for a minute

Funny how that works, I have worked on larger engines, steering clutch and brakes, final drives and other high dollar shit but working on my car I am always nervous when it comes to firing it up for the first time.

Gotta love a CAT engine. Setting the governor mA's can be a bit of a pain, but quiet (relative to other big engines, EMD etc) and run forever.

Minor setback - found a small coolant leak while pressure testing the cooling system. I posted this picture of the Autometer coolant temperature sender during engine assembly.

The Autometer 2268 adapter (M16 x 1.5) leaked where the copper washer seals to the block. I have never liked that setup as suggested by Autometer because the surface on the block that the copper washer seals against is not machined. Rather it is rough cast. Here's a better picture of the adapter & sender

Not even sure why Autometer suggests using the 2268 adapter (M16 x 1.5) when the threaded hole in the block is 3/8" NPT. So after draining the cooling system and taking an antifreeze shower, it was off to the local home center for a 3/8" x 1/8" NPT bushing. This is the setup I should have used from the beginning.

The sender, when it is installed in the Autometer adapter, doesn't even protrude into the coolant stream

when compared to using the 3/8" x 1/8" NPT bushing

Sender/Bushing installed

Cooling system has been refilled, bled and pressure tested for 2 hours with no signs of leaks or any drop in pressure.
