Just installing the the pinion flange properly, you need a INCH-pounds torque wrench to get proper pinion pre-load (do a search, lots of posts here about it).

The 8.8 is otherwise a simple replacement, nothing different. Be sure to torque all bolts to spec and use threadlocker where appropriate.

I just did the swap about a month and half ago, the most important part is the cobra flange replacement, get the correct preload or you might have problems. Just take your time and it will be simple replacement. Took me about 3hrs. on jack stands to do.

Thanks for the good info guys.

Alec - I'm going to be using 3.73's. Looking forward to the nice acceleration upgrade

Latemodel restoration sells the flange for 24.99 with free shipping, and any s197 year will work. The new edge, sn95, none of those body styles will work as the rear end is shorter and they are different suspension setups.

I swapped my 7.5 in my former 07 Vert for the 8.8... had 4.30's installed prior to the swap! Boy was there a difference! OP be sure you get a handheld tuner to adjust the gear ratio.

FRPP also sells the Cobra flange M-4851-b list price $25, but if you are nice to your dealer they usually give a discount consistent with 5% over their cost.

BTW, with all of you guys putting 8.8's into your v-6 cars, does anyone have a spare 8.8" GT flange laying around?

So which 8.8 rear ends can go in my 09 v6

Any from the years 2005-2009 Mustangs. I'm not 100% sure, but the 10's (v6 included) have 8.8's. Not sure if it's a direct swap though - might need a different flange?

2010 GT has the 8.8, the V6 has 7.5. 2011 was the first year the V6 got the 8.8, so it could handle all 305 horses.

theres no use of like 00-04 8.8.. im having such a hard time finding an 8.8

You can't use the earlier rear ends. They have a 4 link set up and the S197 (2005-to date) uses a 3 link.
