I have heard many different things about the subject. Some say that leaving off idle yields better times other say to foot brake it. Those that usually say to leave off idle talk about hesitation when they foot brake it. I have also heard people talk about rolling into the throttle and not just hammering it ( not because of tire spin but once again a lag). So what is the deal is it better to stall it up ( I have a 3000 stall) and nail it or leave off idle and roll into it? If it is better to leave off idle or to roll into the throttle why is that? Leaving off idle and rolling into the throttle seems counter productive.

Stall it as high as you can go. I have a 3k stall also and when I try to flash stall it, launching from idle, I just blow the tires off but when I stall it up to 2500 or better I get 1.5xx 60' times.

Take your butt to the track and test it for yourself. That is the only way you will know for sure what you and your car are capable of running. Every car is different.

That's what I was going to say. Mine has always worked better footbraked to its limit. If I launch from an idle, it's much worse. But on the other hand, I'm pretty sure Paul (psfracer) has a lot better luck from an idle than he does foot braking.

I seemed to get a lil better stall speed out of mine pulling the e-break and mashing the break w/ my left foot while pushing the gas to its limit. but on the turbo building as much load on the motor is what is needed. you may be better off flashing it or stabing it from idle. just like said above, every car is diferent and you really don't know til you try it all and compair your 60's.

Practice in your drive way , In 15 minutes you will know. You have a stall so I would think holding as high as you can,let it rip.

I start from idle when I was racing. I tried to launching with bring the RPMs up to 1.5K to 2K and the car didn't like it.
Try different things and use the best one for yourself.

I bring my car up to 2000k and let it rip as the tree (or arm) comes down. My car loves it, and I am on the stock stall.

With my car it was leaving from an idle and hitting the gas as hard as you can. The converter seemed to flash better that way.

I drove Don's car last weekend--and with his car that definitely was not the case. His car liked the converter to brought up as high as you could.

I attribute the differences to the blowers---I having the 2.3 which is more responsive on the low end, vs Dons 2.8H which is not as responsive down low but has alot more to offer up top.

So I guess like US-1 said, every car is different.

Paul... mine was like that on the 2.4L KB, too. Off idle it was not nearly as good. Even back NA, it always launched better when up on the TC.

That's because your stall has always been so tight... Your short times would be GREATLY reduced IMO with a looser converter Don.

I don't disagree that a looser converter would help, but your reasoning is flawed. The car reacted the same with three different converters, and four configurations: stock, the Art Carr POS, and a 3200 and 3500 stall triple disc PI. I'm hesistant to go higher than 3500 on the street due to the added heat. My trans is on borrowed time already.
