Haven’t been here for a long while!

My question is more opinion than tech, so hope this is the right section

I recently added a Bassani O/R xpipe and am looking for axle backs that would pair well. I currently have Pype Bombs, and while it’s sounds amazing wide open, it’s just not practical around town. Cop magnet, and wifey hates it

So, if you have heard, first hand, a boosted 4.6 with bassani xpipe, please leave some suggestions for muffler combos. Thanks all!

Do you have cats on your car? Sounds good

Thanks. Which ones, Corsa has a few options?

I have the corsa extremes on my 2008 - whipple, Mac LTs, Mac OR prochamber. It's really loud. But as advertised, no drone. If you want to tone it down, maybe their sports or touring would be better for you.

I'll add that at idle and cruising with rpm under 2k, they are pretty mellow. Once you start to get into the RPM's they really start to get loud.

Nice, thanks! I want to try both the Extreme and Sports. Don’t think they’d appreciate if i tried to return one or the other after installing them though

Do you experience any interior resonance drone with the Roush Extreme/Off-Road cat back exhaust? I'm considering the Roush Extreme Catback for my "06" GT, but do have some drone concerns after listening to several YouTube videos from owners that have complained about the Roush Extreme/Off-Road Catback having drone issues between 1500-2000 RPM at cruising speeds on the highway. Therefore can you confirm one way or the other as to the amount of drone the Roush Off-Road Extreme produces if any at all? Thanks!

From my understanding, under Corsa's warranty policy, once they are installed, they won't accept returns unless there's a manufactures defect involved.

I honestly don't notice any drone, but most of the time I have tunes turned up so I don't hear the motor or exhaust. If I did notice the drone I'd probably just leave it because it sounds great the rest of the time. May be a difference in RPM's I run at cruising speed as I have an automatic with 3:55 gears, does a manual run at different RPM with say the 3:73 gears that causes the drone?

IMO Corsas are going to be loud as hell with an OR X-pipe, even if you do the Sport. I can't imagine them being much quieter than the Pype Bombs. Corsas are good at mitigating drone but they don't do a whole lot of muffling.

I have the Borla Touring on my car, and while I do have high flow cats I also have long tubes which boost the volume. The Borlas really bark when you wind it out but they're a bit more reasonable around town, although I will admit that I do experience some resonance with them (I don't think it's too bad though).

It’s not so much the “volume”, but the raspiness and rattle. Hard to explain with words. There’s a certain resonance at 2500-3000 rpm while accelerating “normally” that is extremely annoying.

I would just stand on it every time, but California’s brilliant residents voted in this new gas tax law, and we are already at $5.00 a gallon

I have the corsa sports, they got really loud and tinny sounding when I added longtubes. I deleted the cats afterwards just for the heck of it and its stupid loud when you get on it.

Added 2 small resonators before the axle to fix the metallic tinny sound (corsa has no packing material). That helped.

I will be adding highflow cats and X pipe to smooth it out more.

But, in every setup, no matter how loud outside, the corsas were absolutely dead quiet inside, no drone.

Not sure if the sound is nice with the offroad X though, might be to raspy loud metallic sounding without extra resonators.

So basically I’m down to Corsa Sport and Borla Atak. I found a guy local with o/r xpipe and Corsa extremes, going to listen to it Thursday morning.

Gotta find more info on the Borlas, I hear they are deeper, whereas the Corsa is more raspy. Wish I could afford to buy them all, test, then sell what I don’t use LOL

Thanks for all the input guys, keep it coming. And post vids if you got em !!!!

Just so you're aware if you intend on running Borla Atak mufflers with an off-road mid-pipe? your exhaust is going to be loud as hell. The Atak mufflers are extremely loud when just running the factory crossover with the stock cats. Also, if you're concerned about interior resonance drone? running an off-road mid-pipe will also amplify the amount of resonance drone that much louder inside the cabin. Adding resonators may help in dampening resonance drone, but will not eliminate it altogether. Anyhow, just saying

I think anything is going to be loud as hell with the o/r xpipe LOL. Just gotta find what sounds best when it’s loud. If that makes sense

The differences between your car and mine are my "06" GT has the 5 spd manual and isn't a Roush. Otherwise, I have the same 3:55 gear ratio as you have. Before going back to the stock 3:55 gear ratio, I was running 4:10 gears for nearly 3 years but didn't really need them as my car is also FI with the Saleen VI PD blower. IMO the 4:10 gears made very little to no difference at all as far as drone was concerned, despite the fact that the shorter 4:10 gears increased the RPM speeds when compared to stock. At any rate, I had also considered upgrading to the Ford Racing FR500S axle back which apparently have zero drone to them, but IMHO appear to be just a bit too quiet when running the stock catted mid-pipe and more than likely too loud and too raspy when running off-road. I also considered Borla Atak, but have read mixed reviews concerning drone issues with the Ataks as well. Needless to say, my top choice has been the Roush Extreme catback. What I like most about the Roush, is its axle-back delete/mid-muffler design that consists of 2 high-flow resonators that are placed before the rear axle which from my understanding are designed to produce minimal resonance drone over most aftermarket mufflers that are placed after the rear axle. I'm also considering the possibility of having a muffler shop fabricate a pair of branch resonators or J-pipes to weld into my existing OTA pipes which supposedly are effective in canceling out the sound frequencies that produce interior resonance drone

I'll throw another option at you, a company many people forget/or don't know about is Heartthrob exhaust. Stacy David on Gearz tv show uses a lot of their stuff and I've heard their exhaust on a couple cars locally and it sounds great. They will custom build as well...

Yes, it does make sense. As I'm also searching for what sounds the best when loud. I just don't want that annoying resonance drone inside the cabin. As much as I like the overall sound of my Borla S-Type (stingers) the interior resonance drone from them is just too much to deal with on the highway at cruising speeds.

I'll definitely have to do some research on them, as I honestly never heard of their company before. In the meantime, thanks for the heads up :waytogo:
