In for pics, etc. Boost brothers came up a bunch when I was doing research for what I wanted to do but I never saw a kit for the S197s. Curious to see what they've done.

Turbonetics as far as I know doesn't make an electronic boost controller, probably just a manual one.

Man thats crappy how they have the turbo literally sitting on the deepest part of the fan/shroud, it look slike its literally resting on it.

Didnt abdullagt have issue with his turbonetics setup hitting his fan?

Looks like this kit may have the same issue if its a turbonetics clone.

I have no problem with it hitting. The only thing that hit the shroud is the BOV, and I only had to dremel like an 1/8 inch notch into the plastic.

That does look piece for piece exactly like my kit.

The intake is stainless instead of plastic on the kit I have
Mine is a stainless tube that is black chrome. But yeah it looks exactly like my kit. I looked at the picture of all the tubing laid out, looks like a direct copy. I need the y pipe, I may see if I can just buy one off them. Turbonetics wants close to 400 bucks for it.

Hey does the maf extender with your kit just reuse the stock sensor? And it doesn't peg?

Yeah the on3 has a y. My buddy made a y on his 2v turbo kit with an h downstream, its sounds so much better!, I might be giving that a try on my setup!

They just cut out the h from the stock midpipe and welded it in.

Wrong!!! the wastegate is the most important piece. If you cheap on anything dont cheap out on the wategate!!! It controls your boost level, if it fails you can potentially blow your engine.

If a bov fails, its no big deal, they arent absolutely necessary anyway, they are just for turbo longevity by preventing compressor surge.

+1 post pics of what came with the kit.

I never said the wastegate wasnt important, I said that the Chinese wastegates are usually pretty good, the only problem being that sometimes the springs are not what theyre supposed to be.
I have a close friend of mine that has been putting ~20 psi on a "XS power" Tail knockoff with a genuine Tial spring for like 4 years now.

Also, Ive never once heard of a wastgate sticking closed. The only failues Ive ever seen or heard of have been the opposite of that. Plus, even if the WG did stick closed, thats what boost cut is for. You would never blow your engine.

EDIT:
If the kit is identical to the ebay link above, the WG is solid. Dont waste your money on a brand, but do expect to have to buy a new spring for it.

Can you explain boost cut?

Can you explain boost cut?

When youre tuner tunes the car for boost it will have a built in parameter for boost cut. When the MAP sensor reads the target value set by the tuner, it will cut ignition. It feels like youre hitting a rev limiter.
Its an extremely good saftey feature.

Its still important to watch boost though, you dont want to set boost cut just above target boost because there is often a boost spike when you have a big engine pushing through what is proportionally a small turbo.
If boost cut is too low youll hit it all the time when the weather starts to get cold, so you have to set it a little high.

Its good to give yourself some headroom. Have the car tuned all the way up to boost cut,. and then bring the boost down a little bit in case of spikes, creeping, etc,

Your looking at things ass backwards and thats really shitty advice. So you know one guy that got lucky for four years with an iferior part modified with a tail spring... Marc S got away with 14-15psi and 550-600rwhp on his stock block. It doesnt mean youy should tell everyone to do it.

All you got to do is spend $50 more for a genuine part that set the standard, that everyone else tries to copy, and dont have to worry about it or replace it...

Its a $1200 kit, nothing is "solid" in it. lol

Yes generaly when the springs fail it fails open or makes less boost, but if the top of the casing/diaphram leaks and target boost doesnt reach the top of the wg to fully open it, it will continue to make boost above what its set at. More so in a boost controller setup. All it takes is an extra lb or two of boost to cause a lean condition and detonation. The diaphram and hardware thats holds the wg togther is very important too. Loctite it at a minimum if you do use a knockoff part!

Oh and you cant just tune in a "boost cut" on our cars they are not factory boosted, you would need to add a device to cut timing if boost reaches a set limit.
