Most people usually seem to recommend 500 miles or so on new gears before thrashing on them.

Having said that, I am sure that there will be plenty of other opinions on number of miles for a break in, or no break in, or both.

Drive it like you stole it...that's my motto.

by the way that is how I broke in my engine and I get almost 26 mpg with my 4:30 gears on the thruway.

My installer said the 500 mile break in story is just a story. The best way to break them in is to drive until they get to operating temp, and then shut down and let the rear end cool down completely. do this about 3 times and your set. I did this and have ZERO problems with my FRPP 4.10's

kick ass at the track!

+1 on the 500 miles.

The shop that did mine last year (and they only do gear work) told me to follow this routine. Initially go through 3 or 4 heat/cool cycles, by driving steady at highway speeds for between 30-50 miles, and the letting the diff cool down completely between each cruise. They said I could let it cool down over night, or run water over it for a while to cool it off. And no burnouts, hard launches or towing for the first 500 miles.

I followed this advice, and the gears have been perfect since then.

that's what I'm worried about. With breaking in the true track and gears at the same I don't think whomping on it with 100 or less mi is a good idea. With the up I have.

I have also heard the more heat cycles the better during the break in.

What he said, every rear end setup I have ever had from someone with a clue came with those same instructions...

I didn't feel right but I raced her. I got a little better. hit 12.3but other then that I'm spinning her all over the place. I need more practice and more. Stanly is kicking but with 12.9,a all night. All I can say is this six! I should stay as a street slayer. This track thing is driving me crazy
