I went from 127550 to 127350s lol. The 550s sounded great and made killer power up top but low range power and driveabilty wasn't there. Always fouling plugs, random stall issues, idle issues and this wasn't tune related. I had too many well known tuners work on it for months at a time, they could get it better but never a hundred percent fixed. I have a set of custom orded cams right here in front me. They have the lift and intake of the 127550s but with the idle and vacuum of the 127350s. I am going to try to do install this weekend.
Mods to my car, 302 stroker, cnc heads, eforce@14psi, tr6060, 4.30 gear, aluminum driveshaft, bbk lt, bbk or/x, 3inch magnaflow cat back, etc etc etc.

My understanding the 127550 were more designed for a centri then PD blower that could of been the issues u were having but thats a guess.

Not to TJ,, But, Seems I've been swapping emails with your grinder and I expressed that I wanted a more aggressive cam (not as aggressive as the 550's,, with good street manners and he mentioned your custom grind.

Post up how they work ..

Thanks,,

Yes for now anyway HeHe.. It took him about a month to come up with something that he felt was perfect. If all goes as it should, I will have more hp and tq than the 127550s without the negative side effects of a larger cam. I hope to have the install finished by Monday.

I have a couple of questions that may seem stupid

When looking at the duration what is the difference between advertised duration and duration @ .050?

What exactly is .050? I don't think that would be the number of degrees of engine rotation bc that would be express in degrees not inches so is that how far open the camshaft opens the valve?

Looking at the differences between the NSR-SPR cams the lobe separation angles get smaller, is this smaller LSA made so that the cams are easier on the valvetrain?

Also if I am going for big N/A numbers would it be better to get a custom grind set of cams or would it be better to get the 127500 or 127600 cams. If it would be better to get custom grind cams why would that be? Would it be so that it could be specifically designed for my usage in the engine?

.05 is lift. Advertised duration is the theoretical time the valve is open from seat to seat, to create a standard for comparing different cams it is more accurately measured from opening at .05" lift till closing back down to .05".

LSA has little effect on valvetrain life, lift and rpm are the big factors here, the bigger the lift the more stress on the springs, retainers etc and the higher you rev.

Most aftermarket cams will have a smaller/tighter lsa than stock to help create power, it shift peak tq lower in the rpm band to help gain hp up top. It raises effective compression and cylinder pressure which reduces hp losses down low and overall helps create more power especially on a na car.

Custom grinds are just to your specs or tailored to your setup. There is no point in having lift to create flow that the heads and intake manifold cant support etc.

Comp lists two springs for the 127350. If I am staying away from high rpms (7-8k), is the smaller beehive all one needs? Thanks.

I'm using 26113 with 127400 cams. Previously used them with 300 cams. No problems and I rev to 7k.

If I was installing springs right now I'd use those. I have a feeling at least one other company rebrands those. The specs are just too close.
