I'm in a need of rear tires. The other day I got a flat http://www.s197forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=79813 and after fixing it I relized it's time for a new set.

Here is where the schooling comes in. On the front is a set of 255/35/ZR20's and the rear is a set of 275/30/ZR20's. If you look at the pics below you can see that the rears look a little to "rubber band-ish". Also bc the side walls are so small I can't have the tire taken off and put back on if I need a patch put on.

bla bla blaaaa ok I want a set of tires with more side wall but I would like to keep the over all DIA with in reson. Wider wouldn't hurt my feelings eather.

Don't hate I know the ride is dirty, I got side swipped by a freak sleet storm last night on the way home.

 <-- school me I'm a tire dumbass

If you want to keep the same overall diameter and want more sidewall, your only option is to get smaller diameter wheels.

The rears have a shorter overall diameter than the front (about half an inch). The fronts do not look to bad. You have a 10 wide rear wheel that can handle much wider than a 275. You can go wider (like 295 or 305/30/20) and keep it a 30 series and gain some of the needed sidewall to make it about the same overall diameter as the front. Will look better imho. Side note, stock is roughly 27" overall diameter. So generally the goal is to stay around that.

Define "within reason".

I never really under stood tire sizes if you ask one person they said

275=how wide 30=how tall (sidewalls) you ask another person and they say the opposite. anyways

if I went with a 275 to 295/35 or 40 is that really going to throw things off that much?

also I need a tire thats not a wierd size to keep the price with in reson. (price reson not looking to pay $400 a tire)

Google "tire size calculator" you can punch in different sizes and it will spit out inches. So you can compare say 255/35/20 to a 265/35/20 and see how much sidewall you gain. If you didn't know the middle number is sidewall hight as compared to the width in percentage. So on the first tire the sidewall hight is 35 percent of 265 millimeters.

Check out tires in 295/30R20 and 305/30R20. Those will both get you up around 27" overall diameter out back and even things out. Gain that .5" and get some wider rubber at the same time.

.

Here is where the schooling comes in. On the front is a set of 255/35/ZR20's and the rear is a set of 275/30/ZR20's.

Here's how it works.

The 275/255 is the width in MM. so 275 = ~10.8" width (275/25.4), 255 = ~10" width (255/25.4).

The 35/30 is your aspect ratio which determines your sidewall. 35 is 35% of the width, 30 is 30% of the width. In your case for the fronts, it's 35% of 10" or 3.5", with an overall diameter of 27" (20" wheel + 3.5" sidewall x 2). For your rears, it's 30% of 10.8" or ~3.25", with an overall diameter of ~26.5"

Damn when you bring the schooling you bring it for real!! lol

For real thanks man.

So like TonyN said above a 295/30 or 305/30 would keep the over all DIA about the same if not closer to the front and gain some rubber and side walls.

Thanks everyone. Now to just find two that don't break the bank.

ok so after surfing around the 295-305/30 must not be a normal tire size bc the price is unreal ($370 and up each). If you got to a 40 profile it drops back down $100 or more but takes the tire up to 29 inch.

yes those are freaking rubber bands in the back. My vote: Go with 275/35/20's in the back. That's what I have on my 20x10's and they fit the wheel perfectly in my opinion and have enough sidewall where they don't look like rubber bands: These are Nitto Invo's by the way...price wasn't too bad and they are pretty good tires. Real nice ride quality with them too.

ANd just for the record, in this pic, the springs on the car are Ford "P" springs. I've since replaced them with a prokit.
