I like the look of the gt style more than the 500. Cowl or stock it's gonna be sick. Use gt style!!!

I will post a photo of the car as soon as the bumper gets back from the paint shop. It will have the current gt hood, BTW i do need extra clearance.

The problem with cowl (I love the look of a cowl hood!) and "ram air" style hoods is they don't work aerodynamically with the S197's. S197's have all sorts of issues evacuating air from the engine compartment.

In 2007 the GT500 got a hood with "extractors" to help with the airflow management issues the GT has (dancing hood at 75mph).

In 2010 the GT's got smaller grill openings (lets less air into the engine bay) and belly pans that sealed the bumper cover to the radiator support which helps extract air from the engine compartment.

In 2010 the GT500's got the same-ish belly pan treatment the GT's did and an even bigger "extractor" in the hood.

The S197 race cars have Tiger Racing hoods with HUGE extractors (in the classes they are legal in) to get as much air out of the engine bay as possible.

Cowl INDUCTION hoods introduce more air into the engine compartment. So do "ram air" type hoods. Like I said above, I love the look of a cowl hood. If they were not a aerodynamic step in the wrong direction I would put one on my car in a second.

From a performance perspective a stock GT500 will work the best.

My hood has the under hood duck, dumping the air into the filter box. i was thinking about installing vents on each side of the hood. But i don't know what the effect would be. Any tips are welcomed, Thanks

Do you have a pic of how your hood is set up/works?

You can probably just add vents and see a huge improvement, getting them in the right spot is the trick though. I can try and help.

You needed more clearance too though right?

Yea, need clearance, I don't have photo of underside, but there is a chamber ( second skin) that go,s from the ram vents to the filter box, and seals with foam to the top of the box. I installed a JLT3 CAI, so now it just dumps the air on top of the filter. king of like this

It looks like that "snorkel" is exactly where you want a vent, LOL!

Its hard to tell from the angle of the picture but it looks like the snorkel setup is right behind the fan shroud/in front of the motor??? If so that is right where you want to evacuate the air under the hood. Running vents like the 13' GT's would help but not like something placed ala' 10-13' GT500.

If you need more clearance it would probably be beneficial to go with a different hood though. I'm not sure how effective your hood really is. On the surface it looks like it gets all sorts of "ram air" but I think because of the shape of the nose/grill/front edge of hood there is a pretty big boundary layer which kicks the air up and over those inlets??? Do you have a tuner you can data log with? I'd bet if the hood had any sort of ram air you could test it by logging MAF counts with the inlets open then covered with tape. Not exactly science, but maybe enough to know if they work or not.

I do know if you go with a stock GT500 hood you will evacuate more air out of the engine bay, under hood temps will go down and there is a LOT more clearance.

Hope I helped.

The hood i was thinking about is like the Shelby GT-H hood. There is another company making it and you can get an insert to vent the front area. I just can not find it.
