Haven't had time for the car in the past two years between work and getting married, but now that the wedding is done, its car time!

I ordered a 1 piece drive shaft for my 08 and figured I'd do the clutch too so thats done. I also think I get some slippage once and awhile. Right now, the car has a saleen blower and dyno tuned 411WHP/39XWTQ at 5lbs. Future goals down the road, would be to build the engine and shoot for around 550WHP and I'd be happy(maybe). But for now, she runs great where she is at.

For clutches, I'm between Spec Stage2+, Spec Stage3, and the McLeod Super Street Pro. The car is rarely driven, but when I do its normally to shows or cruises or joy rides. I'm a big fan of do it once but something rated for 800HP is more than I'd ever need.

If you have those clutches I mentioned, I'd appreciate some feedback.

Thanks,
BB

P.S. - I have pypes long tubes, if you have them, did you have to remove them or did you have enough clearance?

Great post because I need a clutch also. My car has over 500 torque when I spray and my stock clutch is slipping now. So I was just about to make a similar post.

Sweet.

I will add one thing. My friend has a fox with a vortex making around 525ish WHP and he has a McCleod dual friction. He likes it but says he does get some chatter and squeaking. He likes it though. He suggested I post up and see what other S197 think of those two choices.

McLeod RXT /thread
+1. Granted I'm still in my break in period, but the RXT is awesome. It just grabs. Pedal is a tad lighter stock and like any aftermarket clutch, it likes a little rpm to get going.

Isn't that one rated for 800HP and more for the track? I'll take a look at it again but seems like an overkill

exedy mach 400 or 500 is all you need, they are not grabby or noisey or chatter, pedal effort is a little higher on the 500 than 400 but still not heavy. exedy also makes a very nice light weight flywheel. spec sucks i will never again own anything spec makes

I've also got my eye on the McCleod Super Street Pro. Haven't heard much about it. Anyone have experience with it?

I'm only pushing ~400 rwhp, so I think the dual disc clutches are overkill.

With the 10 spline input shaft on the stock transmission, it really doesn't make sense to put a clutch rated for 800+hp in front of it.
The RXT is a great clutch but until you have a transmission with a 26 spline input shaft, it is way overkill. I'm using an exedy mach 500 on my car.

I've run an RST in both 10 and 26 spline. It's a great organic clutch that works with just about any range of hp. Pedal effort is less than stock which means it's great with the stock slave.

Overkill depends on where you are going and how the part will affect normal driving imo.

OP there are lots of clutch threads and posts on this forum. Give yourself a few hours and see how people liked different models of clutches.

I just spent the better part of the last few hours looking at reviews. Seems like initially the Stage2+ had issue. I'm not sure if thats still the cause, some vendors recommended it to me while others(AM) don't care it anymore. Stage 3 sounds not as desirable b/c of the puck nature, but a lot of good things on this forum about Stage3+. Sounds like its a little more work initially to break it in but then its fine. I've driven an Evo with something ridiculous like a Stage3+ or Stage4 and I thought it was fine. So maybe I should consider Stage3+. I don't DD it so i can probably handle it the few times I drive it.

The McLeod RST would definitely be nice and server the purpose as well. I'm tempted. The price is more but might be a better piece.

Question for you guys with built engines, the stock crank is a 6 bolt but most after market forged cranks are 8 right? When i eventually build the engine, I would most likely keep the 5speed. So in that case, I would worse for worse just need a new flywheel(from 6 to 8 bolt), correct?

Thanks,
BB

I run a Spec Stage 3+ and like it. Never had a problem with it. Pedal effort is good and it has held fine in the mid 500hp range running drag radials full time. I have since surpassed those numbers but don't want to change it until I do the 26 spline input shaft so I don't have to do it twice.

I just put a 3+ in my car with a tr6060 and a pd blower. Haven't driven it yet but I liked the stage 3's I've had before. If you want s stage 3 I've got one with less than 3500 miles I'd sell cheap...had to go with 26spline

Thats for all the input everyone.

For the guys with the Stage3+, is it "on/off"? For example, would you guys have trouble driving up on ramps? I have Race Ramps that I love to use. Sounds like the disc nature of the Stage3+ is more street friendly tho than the Stage3.

Its a full face disk so its a bit tamer than a puck but everyone's definition of on/off is different. If I were you I'd do a billet steel flywheel, will make driving it a much nicer experience.

You should be good then. I think you will like a 3+, if you plan on doing a lot of hard launches on drag radials and dead hooking you may also want to look into a 26 spline input shaft

I've run a couple of spec stage III's. Everywhere from 375-650hp. They work pretty good as long as they are broken in correctly. Break them in wrong and they are junk.

I run RST's now. Best..............................clutch...............................ever.
