Stage 3 comp cams #127600
Stock heads, no headwork. Even though it says ported heads required.
The first set of numbers is with full bolt ons and stock 3.55 gears
Second set is U/D pulleys, 3.90's and Comp Cams
DSCN0332.jpg

Lost quite a bit down low. But when they come in, they come in hard, and continuously pull up top.

nice...put a set of 4.30's or 4.56's and then you'll really get to where the cams work in a hurry
I was on the verge of doin 410s.. It will see the street more then the track though. Also a lot more roll races then digs.
I was getting 25.5 mpg on the way home from the tune rolling anywhere from 70-85mph!

wow you lost like 20 whp and 50wtq below 3k. you was still losing power til 4600. i cant see myself spending money to gain less up top than what i would lose down low.

Even if your keeping this a street car i'd still recommend you put in 4.30 or 4.56 gears with all the power lost below 4500 RPM.

Wow... for stock heads, that's not bad. You are making the same power as the stage 2 cams, maybe a shade less. It's good to see just how much the P&P helps the engine breathe. I was wondering what the diff would have been if I kept the heads stock.

I wish you the best of luck.

Any vids of your ride w/ that big cam. Does the cam sound get more noticeable with aftermarket heads?

with aftermarket heads that low end loss might be reduced

With my heads being P&P and using the same cam as mention above I got a min gain of 25 rwtq from 2k to about 3.5k. From 3.5k to to 7k (basicly the whole power band) I gained 57+ rwtq.

So yea, jp229 is making 75 less rwtq on the bottom end and 50+ less rwtq on th top end compaired to if he went with a P&P job.

However, I am not basshing jp229. For stock heads, he is making good numbers. Not everyone wants to spend between $2000 - $4000 for a complete head build.

Since the tune it has a lil bit smoother idle, but still choppy, if you understand what i mean?? Also idling at like 720-750

Yeah definitely lost it down low. But i'm not worried about the minimal power below 3,500 at all. it actually helps me launching on the street. i can roll out and gain momentum before it starts creating really good power. This car is not one to hook, 2.1 being my best 60' on rock hard tires that were chirping and on the verge of breaking loose the whole launch. A steeper gear would help me out yeah. But i will see how it works this coming summer with some better tires.

I really didnt want to pull the heads off for p&p. I will do that further down the road along with internals. I wanna throw maybe a 75-100 shot on there to make up for the low end I lost and also max out the internals for now.

Also why i wanted to put up dyno sheet instead of just saying before and after numbers! Numbers sound really good, but when u see the sheet, you will see that the car really doesnt come alive till 4500 or so.
I am satisfied though. it pulls really well, now i just have to run some buddies and see how this car REALLY works compared to my bolt on setup

Because the stock heads don't flow enough to see gains with a cam this big. Sure, he sees gains, but not because he's actually gaining flow. The only reason he's seeing gains is because the duration increase shifted the torque curve. Notice how the peak torque is the same? If he had P&P he would see a huge increase in torque everywhere.

they are way big for a stock engine.... you need to use at least 4.56 to get results from those cams in the track, you pulled the torque too high and lost alot in the low end not always bigger is better...

Sayin i wont see results at the track is kind of a long shot there. And yes I know bigger is not always better.
Yes it makes shitty power below 4k, even up to 4,500. But Shifting at 6700 or so, my RPM's wont be dipping down too far into where its making said shitty power.. If they do they will be quick put in the powerband again.
Like i said, throwing a 75-100 shot on there should make up for that lost power down low.
The car feels so much stronger then before when i'm banging through the gears. But yes it has no low end, its a dog when i try to pep it at like 3,500.
