What are the do's and don'ts of running E85 in a street car? I am looking to buy a built 3v Mustang set up for corn. The owner says it's been corn fed for a year and a half. I know letting the car sit with corn in the tank is a no-no, and I am reading forum posts elsewhere that say a tank of 93 should be ran every 5 tanks of E85 to clean out deposits. Then there are guys who have run nothing but E85 for 20k+ miles with no issues. Other than the hygroscopic nature of ethanol, is there anything else I should be aware of? Who here drives daily, or relies heavily on E85?

I can't imagine after 20k miles of daily use that e85 doesn't take a toll on aluminum parts to even the composite intake.
Doesn't it require a specific oil?

Check the owners manual of a flex fuel vehicle. They will have recommendations (if any,) for what you need to do running ethanol. I suspect nothing. Just run it.

I looked at Ford's maintenance schedule for FFVs and the only difference was more frequent fuel filter changes. They called for the same oil as gasoline cars and there was no mentioning of running gasoline through the FFV to "clean it out".

A few yrs ago I saw that steeda made a stainless steel fuel filter for these cars... which was less $$ vs oem. Story I got was the fuel rails and also injectors had to be rated to handle E85..and both were typ made from SS. I have zero experience with E85, since it's not available.

I believe this is correct" fuel rails and also injectors had to be rated to handle E85".
I have been running e85 for a couple of years now, other than the above, get yourself an e85 test kit, I test the fuel every time here in Cali before I purchase several gallons of it.

The car I'm looking at is equipped with ID injectors and a Fore dual pump hat with two DW pumps. I believe they are ethanol friendly. I'm not sure what rails it has but I'll find out when I go to see it.

I'll definitely pick up a test kit as I've heard E85 in my area is more like E70-E80.
