so i was driving to work and i was drivig the car pretty hard i parked it and noticed it was leaking quite a bit of coolant. i popped the hood and poured water on the radiator to cool it off. i didnt pay attention to the temp gauge but then i've never had a temp problem with this car.

today drove home from work and watched the temp gauge like a hawk even sat in the driveway letting it idle to see if it would over heat. the needle sat perfectly center the whole drive once it warmed up. yet i have probably half a gallon of coolant on my drive way again. it didnt leak while i was driving but as soon as i turn it off it pours out of the cap pretty heavily

is it just the radiator cap gone bad or am i fubar.

The cooling system pressure increases as soon as you shut the engine off, and the seal inside the overflow reservoir cap may have deteriorated to the extent that it won't hold pressure. A new cap should cure the problem.

Had a similar issue. Drove the car 45 minutes and parked it. About a minute later coolant came shooting out. Replaced the cap and all was good.
