Ok, going to make this topic it's own thread to try and get more heads involved. I'm having a tough time deciding what to do, how to do it, and what products to use to accomplish it. I am about to install a custom grind turbo cam for my new TT setup. My cam designer(Mark @ Bullet) & tuner(Lito) highly advised me to perfectly "time the cams" by degreeing them in. This is where I'm stumped. How?

Would this 2V product work for my 3V application? If not, then what will?

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TF...0505/?rtype=10

Anyone that has degree'd their 3V cams before is invited to please chime in for assistance. I would greatly appreciate it.

I was about to say the hell with it because so many people have said, "oh, you'll be good. Don't worry about it."....but when my cam designer & tuner BOTH are strongly recommending that I do it "correctly"...it's hard to ignore.

Thanks ya'll.

Thanks for that link...fml that looks like a bunch of BS.

There's gotta be a way to degree the cams without taking the motor out, or taking the heads off. I want to do this with the motor still in the car, and at MOST, take the front cover off...which i know needs to be done.

Yes I am, that is why I asked. My weekend is full but, I can bring my degreeing tools back with me next Monday if y'all need them. I may even be able to help some during the evening next week but, I have my own issues I am sorting out on the weekends.

That'd be great. I'll let you and Leo work that out. One of us could meet you as you drive through Round Rock or Georgetown on I35.

I degreed my cams in the car. It's really not that bad, but I pulled my radiator while I was in there to swap a bigger one.

If you need some tools or know how I have everything to degree cams and I'm in Houston.

As far as hardware, you'll need a solid lifter to check intake centerline.

As far as tools you'll need a degree wheel and a crank socket to hold it, a dial indicator and a way to mount it to the head, and a piston stop. Really that's about it.

The piston stop is merely to determine TDC. Basically you need something that threads into the spark plug that will hit the piston. I can send you a pic of my rigged up one later tonight.

I bought the trick flow timing kit. It comes with a solid adjustable lifter and an extension for the dial gauge.

I tried to reply to your PM..but your inbox is full noob. :p

Grab your gear and lets get together at Mikey's. I can make Wednesday happen!

Okay, I will gather it up this weekend and get back to you. I am up in Round Rock for the next couple weeks instead of downtown Austin now.

The reason I put both left and right is because I noticed one tiny difference. gross valve lift. the left side is .549 and the right side is .550

My cam cards:

LEFT HEAD

duration at .050----227,232
lobe lift-------------.2720,.2720
separation--115
timing events at .050- 3.5 43.5 56 -4
duration at .006----265,270
gross valve lift-----.549,.549
valve lash (hot)----.000 .000
degree intake lobe to----110

RIGHT HEAD

duration at .050----227,232
lobe lift-------------.2720,.2720
separation--115
timing events at .050- 3.5 43.5 56 -4
duration at .006----265,270
gross valve lift-----.550,.550
valve lash (hot)----.000 .000
degree intake lobe to----110

Seems like that could be an oversight on the part of QC or shipping...

Also, you may not even need adjustable crank gears to get close to your timing. Mine was 113 on the factory alignment. Of course yours could be drastically different than mine.
