Get rid of it while you still can.

Pretty soon owning 3v GT is going to be like owning an old C4 Corvette. Good cars, but you can't get rid of them for shit when competing in the used marketplace with much nicer, newer, faster versions of the same model.

This is not true at all.

What was I thinking? You guys are right, in five years everyone will be paying a premium for the S197s with the pretty tail lights and 100 fewer horsepower. :yuck:

Agree- this is untrue. The foxbody mustangs lasted forever and still bring good money, in fact if it weren't for them you're 5.0 would probably not be in existance.

The original s197 will be more of a collector car because it's the first of the body style change. All the 5.0 is going to be known for is the problems and ugly taillights. Not everything is based on HP when it comes to car value and collectors. I think you're the 5.0 owner that thinks you're fast and better than the older cars. Sad truth is,Your car will devalue the same. I agree for a stock car yeah they run good, but not good enough for a camaro owner ego trip.:yuck:

Sorry, didn't mean to light so many tampons around here. Just trying to give some good advice, unlike some of you guys telling him to dump ten grand into his current car.

Theres no way in hell i would do either, new car or blower... The car you have is nice, just DRIVE it and enjoy it for what it is. After all the money in the current car & the way it looks i wouldnt start over on another one to only just make it look good & make it quick so that it can sit up w/ 2 billion coats of sealant on it.

Save the money and put some miles on the current 1.

BUT if you insist on getting rid of it let me know, i will ride over and strip your car of parts including the wheels b/c you just cant reuse the same wheels over again on a new car, ya have to get new 1's hahaha

I agree with you. You're looking at it from a logical money stand point, not from an enthusiast stand point.

The only issue I have is that you are using your opinion on a C4 and passing it off as a fact. If you could provide any evidence that the C4 has an increased depreciation value over the C5 I would love to see it. Or better yet show me that a 5.0 depreciates at a slower rate then a s197

Guys, I don't know if yall realize it but, I think along the way his dilemma has changed from whether or not to trade, to what color to get, and 5.0 or GT500. I really think that Darren is at a point where he needs a change and it is inevitable. So, no point in the rest of us argueing over which is the best value.

Personnally, I have the same dilemma sort of. Every time I see a new 5.0 (the HP is the draw for me, not the looks) or a new GT500, I think I gotta have one, But then the reality is that I got a great car, with no notes.

And regardless of how great a new one is it will depreciate faster than you can pay the notes!!!!!

Ok, I REALLY appreciate every and all response. As of right now I believe I'm going to keep mine. As feasible as it may be to trade, at present, I can't bring myself to let this car go. I'm an idiot I'm sure, but I digress. This thread is/was a SERIOUS inquiry on the question posed, and not something to just occupy space on this forum. Lots of insight shown and spoken and I'm grateful.

Large purchases have always made me nervous and one that I take my time pursuing. I like to feel a since of confirmation and I'm not quite there with this yet, hence my silence from the thread over the weekend.

Guess I'll go throw on another coat of BFWD to relieve some stress and continue contemplating.

I get the analogy between the C4/C5 and the 3v/Coyote. Regardless, they all depreciate, and with 03/04 terminators going for as cheap as they are anyone who thinks they have a "collector" car here needs to reconsider. Same goes for the 5.0 owners who think they have a car which won't depreciate fast. Not to mention you can make any car faster whether it's a C4 or a 3v. Most of us don't treat these cars as a true collector anyway. They are driven and in most cases driven hard. That was the intention when they left the factory IMO.

Seems like some people just aren't ever happy or happy for very long. It's an affliction I don't personally suffer from nearly as badly as some and I for one am thankful for that. It gets pretty expensive to feed that disease.

+1 I don't seem to have that need in me to beat anyone around me.
Maybe it's my overly large penis, (Had to purchase an extra seat on american airlines) who knows.
I just don't get hurt or care if someone is faster I enjoy my car everyday and especially at the track :)

All I am saying is that they all depreciate at a relatively similar rate. All vehicles see the largest depreciation in the first year followed by a reduced percentage every year after. For someone to say that a 3 valve is suddenly going to see a massive depreciation based on an opinion proposed as a fact is just a completely wrong and uneducated statement.
