Yes a boosted 5.0 is awesome but look at it this way. You have a nice car, paid for yet still doesn't have a blower on it. It would be even longer with a car payment before you could boost a 5.0. Buy A built sb from a vendor. Major assembly is done.

Just don't rush into anything. Are you stating you will only be financing under 10k for a 2012? Thats not shabby

Man I am in the same boat your in, my car is paid for I looked at a few new 5.0 but I don't want a car payment at all. I got offered around the same deal. My car us 10k. Same as you. I just keep telling myself not having a payment is great and if I put 10k in my gt I would have one bad ass car. So I am keeping mine I am going to boost it see how long it last once it blows then I will get forged motor. Still have less than 10 g in it.oh and no car payment.

BTW, I'm not ignoring anybody's post. All are very good and make this decision EXTREMELY difficult, so I do appreciate everybodys input.

The problem with forging my motor is I live in redneck country

and these jacklegs couldn't rebuild a lawnmower engine much less a built block to handle real power! I'd end up with a bucket of twisted parts and an empty wallet while Billy Bob is wineing and dining on my dime!!!!!!!!

. I do all the work on my car myself. I could change a motor out, but I doubt I could build up a shortblock correctly.

I've been listening (reading) to you go on and on about a Whipple for well over a year. Make one call to Tousley. Order the FRPP Whipple HO, Aluminator, and head changing kit.

Putting heads on a built up shortblock isn't hard at all. Pulling a motor and putting it back in isn't hard on a s197. The most difficult thing you will have to do is clean the mating surface and measure your heads for flatness.

You made the decision well over a year ago. Now just pick up the phone before 4pm central and place the order.

You could just buy the Whipple, use the excellent FRPP tune, put down 480 rwhp on the stock block and probably never have an issue. It's an easy choice, just call Mike or Steve tomorrow and sleep easy.

Ha I had a thread almost identical to this about 2 months ago. From an unbiased point of view, I would stay with the 4.6. You've already got it started and it's far from finished. Keep having fun with it, make it fun, but most importantly make it original!! Make it so that all the heads turn when you drive by and the 5.0 guys say, "man, that's a badass ride" :)

Tell me what the new car will do for you that the current car cannot?

Now imagine some slimeball getting in YOUR car wearing greasy work clothes and driving it down a gravel road (spinning the tires a bit for good measure). Because that's exactly what's going to happen. All your hard work making your baby shine will be for nothing.

OK, now imagine yourself with a new 5.0 and a car payment. Now consider that next year Ford comes out with a 5.4 for the GT (or something else with an increase in power) and once again you're driving last year's model and the new ones are faster. NOW what do you do? Remember that now you will have a car payment and will be in the exact same position as you are now, but with much more limited options.

What are you gonna do with the added HP?? Do you plan on racing either choice you make and if not and its just for show why bother as your car is paid off. I dont think there is one 750 HP 2.3 Whipple 3V that I can think of. KB mammoth, Procharger, turbo for that kinda power. Numbers dont mean shit unless you want a dyno queen. Id say forge it and put some FI on there.

Seriously Ultra, it's no fun spending your money for ya if you dont' come back and respond.

In all seriousness, it is a hard decision but if it were me I would keep your car man. No car payment with an aluminator and whipple would be awesome. I wish I didn't have a car payment!!!

6.5k into your car and it blows a stock 5.0 away. 10k and it beats up on a blown 5.0. To make power its cheaper to keep your car
