The previous owner tried contact cement on mine so that was all over the back of mine. I tried everything to get that shit off but nothing worked. Idk how the shop did it but they did well.

Sometimes it's worth it to just cough up the dough just for it to be dealt with and done. You're not necessarily paying for the work so much as getting that shit out of your head. Looks good!

Even though the Loctite spray worked on mine I think the most reliable fix is doing it like the factory. That is pull back the fabric, scrape off all the old foam. Go to Hobby Lobby or a fabric shop and buy some thin foam, glue that to the door panel, then glue the fabric to the foam. I just think the fabric has a hard time sticking to the felt or whatever the actual base material is on the panel. Plus a new foam backing keeps you from seeing any slight imperfections caused by too much adhesive in certain spots. If mine ever comes apart again I'm going to try it that way.

I've thought about that. My concern is the foam deteriating like it did the first time. Really don't want to have to redo my panels every few years because of degrading foam.

I went the foam route and it turned out great. I used headliner foam from a fabric shop.

I have repaired mine a few times, but with Florida's heat it doesn't last very long.. I am about to pay a shop to redo them using new material. Can't seem to find a shop that will do it for me though.

I really don't understand why so many people are having problems doing this repair! Peel it, clean it, apply one coat of brush on contact cement to both the panel and fabric, let dry, reapply and let the second coat dry. Then roll the fabric back up and work out air bubbles. I've done both of mine and they have survived the Texas heat no problem.

Later,
Lee

I don't necessarily disagree, but every car is different. And seeing as it's now 2013, even the latest model 05-09 Mustangs are 4 years old so there's no telling how many times or methods it may have been done on different cars before their current owners got them. As for me, it worked and I'm in Florida heat. Had to touch up the very top edge with a little Loctite super glue gel, but other than that it's been good.

Is this material actually called "perforated vinyl"?

I'd like to find somewhere I can order the material in a shade of blue instead of the black that's already on my doors.

Does anyone actually know who makes the material? That would be a good starting point for me.

Panels are falling again for the second time... I'm done with these things! It makes me feel like I drive some beater piece of shit car! I would rather just rip them off than let them hang again!
A buddy of mine has a Stage 3 Roush and his door panels are black plastic pieces! Where can I get panels like those!?

Recently did one of mine using contact cement, 2 coats, in heat of the day.
I used a small 3" wide or so paint trim roller, that worked very well.

Once thing I did do that some of you may need to keep in mind, is to go back over smoothing it out shortly after you think it's 'set', to make sure no little bubbles pop back up; i had a couple small places that wanted to lift a little, but once the glue set, it was fine.

And actually, the contact cement dries slowly, you need to go back every so often and check for bubbles/wrinkles and gently flatten them out; you can use a soft towel for this, pressing down on the areas that keep popping up every 15-30 minutes, until they stay set in place after a couple of hours or so.

guy quoted me 160 to repair both sides, not bad deal imho. he's gonna do the tube edging in blue for an extra 20 for both doors so 180$ total. he's located in brea if anyone is interested i'll post up the business card
