Will a 6r80 from a f-150 work in the 11 gt? I think I would rather change over to an auto than spend 1300 on a clutch, 400 on a shifter, and 200 on a transmission mount.

You are going to have to change PCM's, shifter and a converter. It is a wash in price.

Take the mods off your current car and trade it on an auto if you want to go that route IMO.

I believe the truck has the same trans as the Mustang. Same ratios, etc...

Why would I need a new pcm? Does the auto harness not mate for some reason? I can get a transmission for the price of a clutch lol.

I'd be shocked if it did mate up. You'll probably be cutting and splicing.

You might want to look into a non-computer controlled transmission to replace the MT-82.

A car with a manual tranmission has no values or tables in its PCM for Automatic tranmission functions. What good is an automatic trasnmission if its not going to engauge gear or shift? You need the PCM along with some interior panels i didnt see mentioned above, id personally opt for the bigger brake pedal instead of the little guy that comes in stick cars. If your gonna do the swap on your brand new 2011 Mustang do it right, do it clean.

^^^ What Jim said^^^

Albeit the "actual parts" are going to be different, the parts necessary shouldn't be too different than the ones needed from earlier year (2005+) swaps. You will need a PCM, an engine wiring harness for an automatic car, pedal set, shifter, new bell housing bolts (or at least I needed them on my 05), the hole plug that covers up the hole in the firewall where the clutch lines go through (dynamat works great for this), and it seems like there was some sort of plate to cover up where the manual shifter when through the tunnel. You will also have to "rig" your clutch lock out switch so that it thinks the clutch is pushed in all the time otherwise the car won't start. And you will need to tap in to your brake switch wiring and run it to the park lock out switch in the new shifter or you will never get the car out of park. Oh... and the car will start without having to put your foot on the brake.

What I do not know is if you will need to change driveshafts and/or transmission cross members. I did not have to on mine. But I am unfamiliar with the 2011s

If the 6r80 is from a 2009-10 truck it will not work. Those years have a TCM in the valve body and two can bus wires from the PCM telling it whats going on. The 2011 Mustang is like all previous years with a separate wire for each control solenoid, TCC etc... The only way to control the 09-10 trans is with a F150 PCM and you do not want to go there. The 2010 6.2 raptor trans went back to the old ways like the Mustang but thats a 4x4 trans. 2011 F150 trans got rid of the TCM and could theoretically work as its wired the same, the driveshaft slides in the back of that trans where the Mustang has a bolt on flange for an output. Custom driveshaft could solve that. Unless you are an automotive electrical guru that likes science projects it would probably be a lot less stressful and cost effective to just trade the car for an auto.

Thanks, sounds like what I needed to know. I'll just get one out of a stang in a few months. It certainly is not cost effective to trade in on a car that is an auto. That would be a $8000 hit right off the bat, plus my time for removing and reinstalling parts. It only takes 4 hours to swap a transmission if I had a donor car. I'm still confused about the PCM though, not that it's hard to swap, but it seems like it could just be flashed to an auto application.

The hardware is not in a manual PCM to control an auto.
It does appear that the trans harness is seperate from the engine control harness. So you would only need a PCM, and trans harness and not the engine harness.

In case you want to keep the 6M, there is a guy in the For Sale forum selling a 2010 6060 out of a GT500

Thanks, I guess I'm just going to drop the coin on a clutch for now. I think I'm going to wait until someone starts selling built 6r80's with transbrakes and a manual valve body. I think I read somewhere where it was an electric vb or something, but I'm sure there is a way to make it manual.

Sponsors? Anyone want to get the ball rolling on this?

If all else fails I will just run a T56 magnum. I like the gear ratios much better in the MT-82 though.
