Why weightless only? I fish both, neither one has proved to be better than the other IMO.

How deep are you fishing? 25+ plus?

I've fished drop shot in as little as a foot of water, to 40 foot plus. It's an underrated method that I have done extremely well on. It's pretty much my #1 setup on most lakes.

Speaking of Van dam, I bump into him once in a while at his brother randy's store D and R Sports here in Kalamazoo. I fished against Jonathan a couple times in our local series this year. We had a good start to our season, but went to crap the last 3 tournaments. Oh well, there is always next year.

I have fished drop shot before with football jig heads using a plastic brush hog. Thats usually when we are in 10-25ft of water.

Van Dam seems like a nice guy, never meet him before. He is one talented mofo though.

When i need to catch a lunker, these are my go to baits.

Banjo minnow ? lol

Man I'm going for the smallies tomorrow and I'm thinking about throwing some big stuff at them. Bass go nuts eating huge stuff this time of year. It's not uncommon for me at this time of year to catch bass with another fish half their size in their mouth.

Reminds me of a video on youtube. A pike is a badass mofo:

I love sluggos and other soft jerk baits. And a rubber 4" worm for the Everglades and a 8-10" for the bigger lakes and bigger bass

Pegged (weighted) OR Weightless.....only.

I should have been more clear.

In FL, weightless works much better, in most scenarios.

Fishing FL and TX are much different....the average lake I fish here is about an average of 5-6 ft in depth.....and the grass here makes fishing weighted set-ups much more difficult.

Weightless is generally easier to provide good movement with plastics, and it is also easier to feel hits on slow days.

I fish 4-5 times a week.

Ok i understand what your talking about now. Is there alot of structure in the lakes there?

What type of grass Hydrilla, Milfoil, Lily Pads? I would think yall would have all 3. I know come spring time, fish on beds hydrilla a mile wide and a mile long, makes for some good fishing.

From March-June you can find me at the lake 4-5 times a week.

I wish...

We do have a lake that I LOVE going to....ONLY because it reminds me of Fork...

My father in law (also from Texas-7 miles from Fork)....also loves hitting up that lake, as it reminds him of Fork as well. He won many tournies on Fork, since it opened in '88 IIRC.

Thats an awesome picture.

Can you imagine running across the lake at 70 mph and seeing this sticking up out of the water?

This is just a random picture of our small lake back home on our property. The 2 lakes of course have a fully functional dam. This one pictured is 60 acres, and the other is a little over 100 acres. They are core lakes as well.

A few pictures I actually have on my phone. First is about 6 years ago when we first got our Wellcraft. Second is my first fishing trip when I got back from Afghanistan. My wife, dad, stepmom and 1 of 2 little brothers. We learned it's cheaper to just charter a boat than own one and all the expenses that go along with it lol

I prefer weightless also, just seems to have a better presentation. I still haven't caught a bass on a damn swim bait...lol. The small mouth up here right now really like bear hair jigs in the rivers, or go up to Traverse Bay and fish 70 foot of water over ship wrecks for big smallies up to 7lbs.

That is bad ass. I went a few times when i lived in Panama City beach, but it was mostly for the reds. Nothing like a marlin. Its funny you mention duck hunting. I will be off tomorrow for my sister graduation from A&M, and then its off to the river for 2 days of duck hunting.
