Ford clear coat... really?!

Was waxing my car yesterday when I noticed the top of my rear bumper is pretty oxidized. I buffed it, waxed it and nothing. Had a buddy who owns a detail shop look at it and he thinks the clear coat is failing.
Now my car is still under warrenty, but would they cover this or am I sol on this one? Ill pist pics as soon as I run out to my car

Looks like something harsh splashed on it and etched the clear. FORD would likely deny that but check anyways. All they can say is yes or no.

Yeah thats what I thought too, but I've never had any chemical in my trunk or near it. Minus my meth but I never spilled it. Maybe some jackass kids??

Think a clay bar and polish might fix this if Ford says no?

Discount auto sells a spray can that's red. It may be close,I would give that a try first. Just make sure you mask off your lic. Plate.

The whole side of my 05 is failing. Looks horrible, putting money away and will paint it this summer. Don't think clay and polish is going to buff that one out bud.

Wetsand with some 1200 then 1500 and rebuff. Just stay of the edges with the sand paper.

Yeah before the relocation brakets that's all it went through then I would wax it. I have been flamed for this already... hand wash only now (doesn't fit anymore anyways).

The shit they utilize is harsh. I wouldn't be shocked if that was the cause. Depleating your clear coats protective ability and finally aiding in the failure.

If that's what happened, maybe the cleaning solution sat on the bumper longer than the rest of the car. I know after I wash my I always have lots of water spots from it running out from under the deck lid/tail lights/wing.

Exactly. The spots are where the car wash chemicals weren't rinsed very well and they dripped out on your bumper after you left the car wash.

I do not hand washer my car(any of them) and none of my cars have ever looked like that. Does my black car have swirls? Yes, but when its clean does it look great(for about 5 min) yes...I had a piece of wood go through my front bumper and the condenser and had to replace both and Ford color match my car perfectly even though it has been hand washed about 5 times and has been outside in every type of weather since it was new.

Nope. Can't prove it was their particular car wash that caused the damage.

It's just the best guestimation I can come up with for the damage. It's not that big of a deal to paint a bumper.

Yeah my buddy thinks he can put a dent in the damage with clay bar followed by a two step polish. For a hundred bucks I guess I can't go wrong right? Car hasnt been clay bared since I've had it anyways (3 years)

Clay isnt going to replace the missing clear coat if thats what the problem is.
