and theres alot of people who dont!:naughty1:

your not going to hear about all the succesfull installs, mostly just people who have problems.

i personally had this issue and switched the wires around. about the float....if you try to install the pump straight in then your float arm will get huing up, you have to install the pump sideways and then twist it once the pump gets down far enough to twist.

So you are trying to say that im wrong in saying a lot of people have problems? Even you yourself had the wiring problem. Most people that install or have had a blower installed take part in these message boards and you can see how many other people have these same types of problems, especially the backwards wiring problem on other sites as well. To your point of course the people that put these in and dont have problems wont say anything but look at how many people have already responded just to this thread with the wiring problem. If these werent Ford pumps and not the only show in town for upgraded pumps and they were distributed by Brand X, do you think people would still be buying them with so much bad feedback. Think about it.

Wow, I guess I was lucky.. had no problems with the install or after...My sympathies...

No problems either.....

I've never seen a bad pump. I've seen a bad wiring in one, once. All I've seen are bad installs.

+1 for bad installs. It's a tricky thing to do right. The arm is very vunerable to damage, as is the pump as a whole. Easily the worst part of my FI install.

I am still questioning the ford engineers for the placement of that pump housing. If it was about 1" furhter back in the car i could have dropped that thing in with ease rather than trying to crowbar it in.

The wiring issue is fairly common and i believe, from what tillman told me, is that some of the pumps had wiring harnesses that had the wrong color wires on them and didnt match up to the wires colors as explained in the directions.

I had this problem in my stock pump after I disconnect the Battery to do some staff :thumb: , the tank was on 1/2 and it shows 0 on the dash !! . I refill it (fuel) and run couples mile and nothing! still got 0:omfg: ,then I disconnect the battery again around an hour and refill it again then booom....:wtf:.. everything run normally, the dash read correct .

I don't know what's going on?? :popcorneat:

im not "trying" to say anything,im only stating that for every 1 you hear about, theres a dozen you didnt hear about. so dont get your panties all in a wad :beerdrink: !! yes, my wires were backwards (the ones that I pinned out to hook up the fuel level sender),took about 3 minutes to diagnose and fix, the directions were not wrong, they just wernt very clear.....

this was my write up for the pumps, trying to help out those who were having issues. I listed a few tips that would help out ALOT,things that are not listed in the instructions. If anything, the only faulty part i see with the pumps are the shitty instructions!!

when brenspeed did my install, they said that when the tank gets below 1/2 tank. it can drop to 0,

they said to switch the wires

this happened on the way home from their shop, i switched the wires, now it does it when it's just below a 1/4 tank

??????

it'll start out at like 5 to e then down to 0 and then keep going

I had the same problem that you have. I fixed it by pulling the pumps back out and you will notice that there is a plastic white piece that has 3 tabs that hold it in place. Mine came updone and was laying in the tank. I put it back on with zip ties and it worked fine. I cant really find a picture of it, but it has a little orange rubber hose and the end of it.

You got it!!!!!!!!!!!!
I dont have those aftermarket lines in it, but I did put a zip tie on the unit so it wont come undone when putting it back in the tank. I heard too many people not having the fuel gauge working when past 1/4 tank and most likely thats the problem. I should of put different fuel line on when I had the pumps out. Those plastic lines arent good at all.

Mine goes all crazy once I got below half a tank especially it I hit the throttle... I have to keep a reserve in the trunk because I have run out of gas multiple times cause it just does not work properly... Not sure what to do...

the first time it dropped off on the way home, i had a little under a half tank.

i drove about 20-25 more miles, and then the car started bucking and had no power, i thought it could be fuel.

Pulled into a station immediately and the car was fine.

Got home, switched the wires, Now it only goes to 0 at below a 1/4.

My concern i guess is that once the gauge drops, is it maybe only getting fuel from one of the pumps? Or, is it only getting fuel from one of the pumps all the time?

Is there a way to know for sure that both pumps are working all the time?

I hate my pump it lies... I have to keep my tank above half cause I am very worried I will run out of gasolina...
I had the same exact problem it was the plastic tube like discribed below. It would pop off every time I would put the pumps back in. I also zip tied mine in place when I figured it out.

Panties in a bunch?

You drew first blood, not me.

Funny how there isnt 1 out of 12 people whose stock fuel pump causes some type of problem. If you actually think that you are correct on this one clearly you arent. Do a search for gt500 pump problems. About a million links will come up on this board and others. Some of them are install problems (probably because its a pain in the ass to drop the pump in smoothly) others are some other type of problem including the hoses, wiring or float arms.

Yeah you are right that the instructions are not clear on the wiring. Yeah thats no biggie. Its not like that will make a difference or cause some problems for people or make your fuel level dance around and throw a DTE FUEL LEVEL ERROR code. Dont you think Ford could update the picture and text in the PDF they send out to ensure a smooth install? If you cant agree with that then im not even going to waste any further time on this one.

Yea , I modified that gt500 setup as far as it could go . LOL

It had GT40 pumps , twin -6 outlets, upgraded lines, and with 2 MSD BAPs was at 70% dc at 700/700 rwhp. with 60 lb injectors.

a million? really? huh, must have missed all those....i can only speak of the set i installed in my own car.

didnt i already say the instructions sucked? that would include any pictures in the instructions....mine went in and worked fine, thats all i can say, if you think the pumps are flawed.....then im not sure why mine went in with no issue and many others have not had issues??

First you said they were not clear but you diagnosed it immediately and now they suck. You are getting closer to my point on this one soon you will be agreeing that a pretty good amount of people have problems. Ok so maybe a million links was a bit of a stretch.......maybe its only half a million links of problems. Ever try reading other message boards? Plenty on those. I'm done with this.

Have a day.

let me say this AGAIN so MAYBE you can understand this time,k. I AM AGREEING WITH YOU.....about the instructions, THEY SUCK MONKEY BALLS FROM MONKEY ISLAND, please re-read this statment until you understand before moving on to the next statement i will make....

I believe (JUST MY OPINION....NOT A FACT) MOST cases of the "bad pumps" are from a bad install (NOT ALL CASES), there have been a few (plural=more than one) people who do this for a living and have stated that out of all the installs they have done only a small fraction gave them an issue.....so its MY belief (AGAIN, JUST MY OPINION), most of the issues are from the install. its MY belief that people do not take thier time, they do not figure it out before they try to jam the pumps into the tank...which I belive causes MOST (not all) issues.

If you where to read my write up, you would see there are many mentions of "tips" .... these tips are NOT in the instructions, and i believe these tips are key to getting them installed with out issues. For example:if you install the pumps with the float facing the front of the car, then twist the assembly once it clears the opening towards the passenger side,it goes in alot easier and you dont mess up the float.also, there are 2 tabs on the bottom of the hat that line up with 2 notches in the fuel tank, if you line this up and slightly twist the hat, the pumps will sit in the tank by them selves, then its very easy to install the lock ring...alot of people dont know about this and they cant get the pumps to stay down while they put the lock ring in, i hear ALOT of people say this is the hardest part but actually its not hard at all if the notches are lines up......neither of these 2 things are mentioned in the instructions,if they were, i bet your 500,000 posts might drop to 250,000 posts.

Only took me 3 minutes to fix my wiring issue because when i wired it up....it was unclear to me and i had my doubts when i when i wired it up the first time, so when my fuel level didnt work...it was the first thing i tried and it fixed the issue. This was my very first gt500 pump install,so im no pro by any means, and mine worked great....i thought i did a great thing by documenting my install and pointing out my tips.

Please dont take this as though im against you on this.....your not completley wrong, just a little (THATS A JOKE_LIGHTEN UP).

BTW....its ok to agree on disagreeing ....its the internet so who cares what we have to really say, right?

If these tips you have outlined, which are great, help to lessen the 500,00 threads to 250,000 threads then this argument has brought about a brighter future for those yet to install the GT500 system.
