anybody know a resoure to determine what effect lower/higher compression will have on horsepower with all other pieces staying the same?
Every point of compression is worth around 2% gain/loss in HP.

I read in one book that said in the lower ranges it can be as much as 4% then at around 12:1 it decreases rapidly like to about 1% per point so i think what they were saying is that the HP gains decrease as the compression increases.Every point of compression is worth around 2% gain/loss in HP.

+1...sorry to jack your thread but just out of curiosity, why do you want to raise compression instead of turning up the crackpipe. i can only assume that you want a more effiecient engine off boost or are running something higher than 93 octane. just wondering what your decisions were to bump up compression.

What happens then to the HP calculation when you lower the compression to 9.1:1 but stroke the motor to 298(4.8L)?
I think its a rule for any gas engine, not for 281 specific or a determined c/i
