Modern cars do not run without a battery connected...for the most part. Def not good for the ECU.

FWIW still sounds like your running outta fuel to me. Could be like Bruce said, the tune is for the wrong intake causing it to run lean, and then lean out and die. If you are throwing lean codes I wouldn't push driving it tooooo much.

Thats odd thats exactly how I diagnosed my alternator was bad. I disconnected the battery and it would die. I still don't see how a tune fault will cause the lights to dim. I would had never think the "shock" from a 12 volt battery would kill the computer when the alternator pumps more than 12 volts. I am almost 100% sure that if I disconnect the battery on my mustang it would keep going. Ill check later tonight and find out!

I still dont think it may be a tune issue but if it is why not remove the CAI, put in the stocker + put the stock tune to see what happens.

I'll ask again. Do you have a volt meter?

Not yet. I will Saturday. I'll check the battery then

If I return it to stock then Im going to be forced to pay to get my tuner unlocked ( Which I think is retarded)

Money is a bit tight right now ( in the middle of buying a house)

Why do you have to pay for your tuner to be unlocked? Isn't it the same one the car was tuned with?

I believe you have 5 unlocks. After that you have to send it to SCT to have it unlocked ( From what I've been told)

I put it back to stock and it told me I had one more unlock left.

If im wrong, Please correct me someone.

You will be checking more than the battery. Let me know when you have a volt meter and I will fill you in on what you need to test.

Much appreciated

It can't be locked if it's married to your ecu. You can put the stock tune in and it won't lock up on you. I've returned mine to stock numerous times and it still says 5 unlocks left. You can plug it into a usb port and see the unlocks left. I think it marries to the vin and each unlock is used when a different vin is used but I'm not certain about that.

that must be it because I am 100% certain I have loaded over 100 tunes to the car and returned to stock tune more than 5x when I was n/a and I took it to the dealer.

It was the tune. Got an email tune and it fixed everything right up.

No idling issues whatsoever

SO did it stay running when you pulled that battery cable? The tune can very easily cause this, it's in effect leaning out because the strategy isn't accounting for all the extra incoming air and compensating accordingly. Like not having the mixture screws out enough on a carb.

I would def say you need a custom tune for the 3 as well. I doubt the canned tune covers the JLT 3. Curious if new tune helps

Well a new issue has come up.

I keep getting CEL P0171 & P0174 (Running too lean)

I cleared the CEL 3 times. Every time I would clear it, after driving 5 miles, the CEL would come back

Could it be the tune?

too many problems with this damn car......*sigh*

You probably have a vacuum leak somewhere. Check all of your clamps on the intake and make sure all of the PCV connections are hooked up and not leaking. If the motor is pulling air in past the MAF sensor your short term fuel trims will be out of whack and throw the lean codes.

If that's not the problem then your tune might be written for the wrong CAI. What CAI did you get? And what did you specify to your tuner?

Take some pictures of the engine bay and post them up.

I'll check the lines today after work.

I made sure the tune was for the JLT series 3.

Should be tuned for a 110mm MAF housing if you want to check with your tuner.
