From what I understand, the only tuner worth a hoot is PSI Motorsports down in Webster. I have called every day for over a week with no callback, and the shop hours are M-F from 8-5. Neither of these items are customer-focused or customer-friendly, so I'm stuck with mail order or a drive somewhere. :(

The issue is that I have to pick between good performance with tranny problems or so-so performance without tranny problems. I have two tunes that would be perfect if I could combine them. One tune runs outstanding unless it's cold outside (below 55* or so) or in low-speed driving situations (neighborhood, stop-n-go, etc), which causes major idle fluctuations that set off the tranny. The other tune has no issues with idle or tranny lights, but performance is very lackluster, especially in the midrange.

I talked with Chris @ Bama/AM, and he swears that his tunes are the magic tunes for which I am searching. I loaded the his race tune this morning. We'll see how the week goes.

you need to give Chris at BBR a call, have him write your tune for you.. there are also no local tuners around me that can write a good tune for automatic cars w/ cams because they arent aware of the issues that cams and auto's have (the OD light flashing, then the car shifts WAY to hard and runs like shit in a limp mode). i also have the hot rod cams, and have this issue, Chris has figured out what the deal is and why it shoots those codes/runs like crap. after you get a tune from him on your car, it wont do that stuff anymore. his n/a tune on my car w/ those cams and my 3k stall, netted 304whp and NO issues, no codes etc, local DYNO tune, (tuner doesnt know the auto trans) netted 289whp, the OD light started flashing after i left, and the car runs like crap after the OD light starts to flash. call Chris at BBR.

Its all in the tune, There is 4 simple tables that have to be tweaked/changed to keep your tranny from acting up with flashing OD lights and what not. I am sure his tune will fix most of your issues, but the best thing to do is drive to someone and have something custom done to fit your car. Good luck.

Chris did an excellent tune for me. Before his tune I had to work the clutch alot. Driveability is almost stock. He is also has great communication

My AM Chris Rose tune has perfect drive-ability with my hot rods. The Brenspeed tune was pretty good, but had some cold engine weirdness and coasting weirdness. Not only does my Chris Rose tune drive perfectly, but it pulls harder than it ever did and no more below 3500 rpm weakness then sudden surge of power (I have the 93 Race tune BTW). I also do NOT get the flashing O/D light with his tune.

My Brenspeed tune had the flashing O/D, but they fixed it. I guess there's more than one way to fix it, but a simple single value change is what did it for me with the Brenspeed tune. I don't know how Chris Rose fixes this, but it's fixed. :)

Also cleaning the crap out of my TB and MAF cleared up some idle issues I had previously. I need to see if a dirty TB/MAF was the reason my BBR tune could not hold idle. It most likely is but I have not tried my BBR tune again in months.

One weird thing I had with my Brenspeed tune is when I would coast slowly (like 20mph lets say) shortly after I let off the gas the RPM would fall to idle. Kind of like coasting with the clutch pushed in in a manual. Then when I'd get back on the throttle, I'd have to wait for the engine to "wind up" until it started to go again at 1500+ rpm or somewhere around there. So trying to maintain a slow speed caused this weird up and down with the RPM. I'm sure anyone around me thought I was retarded or something making the engine do that. But, the Chris Rose tune does not fall like that and the RPMs stay up where you'd expect. The only time they go down to idle is when I'm stopped. Much better behavior and response.

Thanks for all of your kind words! I've done alot of work with those FRPP Cams to get them perfect drivability... no stalling, surging, etc! With some help, I've also been able to eliminate any overdrive light blinking situations. I'm stoked withour FRPP Hot Rod files!

as soon as i close on this damn house i'm thinking i'm pulling off my ARH longtubes and using the cash to buy a set of cams for the car instead. was thinking of Hotrods but heard too many things about the tuning so i'll go for some with vsr and spr cams.

As soon as you close on that house, you'll be buying a lawn mower, weedeater, trash cans, paint cans, brushes, brooms.....

Read Don's house build thread. Your modding days are on hold, baby.

That sounds kinda silly, but whatever floats your boat.

I'm not very familiar with tuning or the major differences in cam profiles between lopey nsr cams like hotrods, muthrthumprs, or the like..but is the difference significant enough to make tuning that much more difficult between them to make people think it's the cams are difficult to tune or is it more dependent on the tuner? Me thinks it's the latter, but that's just an opinion that's worth its weight in dogshit when it comes to this subject.

only reason im thinking of pulling the longtubes out is for loudness alone. been driving around hiding from cops too long already. plus i work for probation so there's always cops parked outside my building while i get in my car late at night and it sucks having to wait for them to walk inside so i can turn on my car haha

umm..mufflers? lol. I kid. But seriously, I'd put your stock mufflers on before you do anything. My car with kooks lts and catted x-pipe was quiet as stock with the original mufflers.
