It's not just Kooks it's pretty much any ceramic aftermarket cat. It seems to be hit or miss with them. My buddy has a set of Pypes ceramics he had 1 fail after 80 miles or so. Pypes replaced it and sent him a hat and bunch of stickers lol. I'm pretty sure he's got about 8k/mi on them by now, no issues.

Magnaflow makes a metallic cat. IMO if you gotta have cats, I'd go with them. Especially if you're really going to flow CFM like a boosted car will. Pricey, but you get what you pay for.... right?

Personally, O/R X all the way. It's still "somewhat" quiet, at idle...

Yes I think metallic cats are alot nicer. If kooks gave the option to use metallic cats I probably would have went with them. They are alot more usually then ceramic cats. If these go again I will just be punching out the catalyst and calling it a day. I spent 60 bucks just to overnight them the cats and I dont want to keep doing that since this is my only car also.

So the car is back up and running now with 2 new cats. They arrived today as promised and everything fit like it should so I'm a happy camper.

This morning i heard a slight rattle on startup and I put it back up on the lift at work after I got done washing it and what do ya know both cats are rattling again. I really cant believe the horrible quality. I will call them on monday and see what they have to say and if they dont want to help me then I will just gut the cats and call it a day. I hope they make this right because they wanted me to post my experience about there customer service and all on the forums. I dont want to jump to conclusions I will just wait and see what they have to say. I would recommend anyone else running there cats just reach under your car when its cool (obviously) and tap on your cats. If your having the issue trust me you will hear it. There has to be more people with this issue that maybe just arent hearing it.

Told you. I wasn't able to gut mine. They were in there pretty good so I am just going to get a custom one made utilizing my stock H pipe... Lesson learned!!!

Yeah it blows big time. These cats rattle even worse then the others. I guess this is a sign telling me to run catless

I forgot to update yesterday. I called and talked to kooks and I basically got the run around for the day as they were supposed to talk about what to do and never did. I called back right before they closed and talked to George and he basically was pointing the finger at my tune. He says my car must be tuned way to rich and Im blowing out the cats. I dont believe that for a second. My cats looks normal and my exhaust tips after days of driving barely have any black on them. I trust Chris Rose with my tune and I think its kooks shitty cats they are using. I could be completely wrong though so we shall see. George said he was going to contact Chris Rose and see what is going on with my tune. I am waiting for a return phone call.

HAHAHA Same run around as me... Tune is too RICH!!! F-Them, if I already didn't have their headers I would have went a different route.

Hmmm.... not quite sure why George would say that. You've seen your dyno results, you know what the results said. If mid-high 12's is rich enough to blow a cat out in a few short days, I'm worried!

No matter what, the blame always gets pointed at the tune. I'm used to it! We can always send him datalogs and WOT results for him to look at? Let me know if there's any info you need provided. I have all of your fuel trim datalogs at part throttle, WOT afr results, etc. I'd be glad to provide.

Yeah Chris I certainly dont doubt your tuning skills and laughed when George said that. He said he was going to call you so I guess that didnt happen either. 2 days now they completely wasted. Im very very close to taking matters into my own hands and getting rid of those POS cats.

What problems does a plugged CAT cause? That happened to mine last week and I drove 2 hundred miles until I figured out I had a problem.

Clogged cats caused a build up of 17lbs of boost on my stock bottom end and blew the motor. Looking at you car it appears you have F/I of some sort and could result in the same for you. You might want to get rid of them before something happens.

Day 3 and still no answer from kooks. These guys are jerking me around and its pissing me off big time. It should take no longer than a few minute phone call to Chris Rose and another few minutes to make a decision. Its been over 2 and a half days so far and still no direct answer. Im extremely unsatisfied with kooks right now. If they dont come through big time I will not be purchasing any products from them again.

Looks like I might be going with American Racing Headers after reading all this. Even if they won't put cats on it's got to be better than dealing with this!

I really wish I just bought the offroad system. I guess I was trying to stay somewhat legal.
