Long awaited open/closed hood scoop temp testing

For me its simple, if there is no effect on cooling and less under the hood temps then that is a plus IMO.

So your assuming you have less underhood temps from doing this? Thats what I was wondering.

I can do before and after testing on this then I am intrigued now. However I think its a real eyesore removed personaly so im not sure I would want to leave it off if it really does help underhood temps at all. I suspect itt might since that air isnt being heated my the radiator prior to entering the engine bay, and as long as your radiator fan can pick up the slack it should be ok and not notice a difference, the fan normaly doesnt run when driving/cruising anyway so I can see the fan easily picking up the slack if it needs to.

do you get a lot rain water or dust in the engine bay or when you wash your car.

Wow. Almost an average of 20 degrees. Wonder how much difference there would be with a hood like mine (Cervini Ram Air)?

I have a few problems with this from an aerodynamics stand point. Adding air under the hood reduces front end grip at speed by producing lift (or more appropriately reducing the amount of down force generated by the car moving through the air). The other thing is that all of the air in your engine bay now has to deal with the high pressure air being forced in at the top, as well as the high pressure air being forced in from the radiator. That means it goes out the bottom where it again, reduces down force at speed all around since that air now struggles to match up correctly at the back of the car with the air coming over the top of the car.

If you REALLY want to get rid of underhood heat and increase front end down force, go with a properly vented hood where the air moving over the hood actually pulls the hot air out of the engine bay and actually lowers engine bay pressure which also results in better airflow through the radiator. The front ends on the 05-09 cars really do not need any help in reducing front end grip at speed! Ford already did a pretty lack luster job with front end aerodynamics which they drastically improved in 2010 by completing the under tray a little better by adding a piece that goes from the radiator support to the K-Member as well as improving the front facia's profile to reduce drag.
